Heres a question that I think needs answering.
Did God ask Mary if she wanted to concieve or did he just plant the wee jesus genome in her without her consent?
Its difficult to imagine that the saviour of all mankind was the result of a pregnancy in which the mother had no say.

Women of the time had very little say at all since they were concidered nothing more than property and the bearers of a man's seed and of course the cause of the so-called fall of man. It has only been very recently that they have even been thought of as a person at all.
Of course she didn't consent, her permission was not needed since she had no say in her own body. Or as the anti-abortionists say, "The good old days."

And yet Jesus initially entrusted the news of His resurrection to women.
Be that as it may - the only thing we have to go on is Luke's Gospel, for what they may be worth historically. And that's ambivalent on your question - on the one hand the Angel says "X will happen, you will Y". On the other, Mary says OK to it. What if she had said "you must be joking?"
We really have nothing but speculation on this one.

Three nuns are in a car wreck and go to heaven. At the gates, they are stopped and told thye must take a quiz. The first was asked the name of Christ's father. She answered and was let through the gate. The second nun was asked the name of Christ's mother. Likewise she answered and was let into heaven. The third nun was asked what Mary said when first approached by the angel concerning her being the mother of God. She paused and said, "My, but that's a hard one..." She was let in.

HI Karl,
It appears that almost all of christianity is based on speculation.
No one knows for sure where jesus was born, or when he was born, they have no records of any deeds he done between the ages of 12 and 30, his trial is a complete mess, no one knows when he was crucified, no one knows when he was buried and finally there are no possession of this god-man anywhere to be found.
I wish i had that much faith.
Best Wishes
Brian
