Should human beings be able to write off pets as dependents on their income tax form? Beyond racism there is specieism, you know.
Should the medical troubles of pets be included under the holy grail of a nationwide single-payer health coverage?
I say yes & yes.
Up to a point.
Dependent deductions - sometime I think that all Adoptions should be a bigger deduction - nay, a direct tax credit - and so maybe your 1st 2 children should be a deduction and the 3rd maybe a half-deduction. Any over that - no - you are contributing to overpopulation and should be penalized. So cats - what about the woman who has 249 cats in her house? Should she get a deduction for them all? No! Maybe for the first 2? Same as it ever was? Dogs, chickens, horses, cows, ducks, boa constrictors, lizard fish, ferrets, chimpanzees, tetras, slime mold, tarantulas, frogs, rattlers, falcons, etc. - WHATEVER - if they are pets being supported by the person.
So where is that point? Another topic, methinks. Pets???? A very denigrating term. Life Companions is much better.
Food for thought, as I munch down on a chicken wing.
BTW - cat person here (Pluto & the Junebug).
