Ok... so the streets in heaven are paved with gold... so what does that mean? The bible says we should not give way to false idols and not give in to greed...well people often wear gold, it's kind of like an idol, and gold = money = greed... so whats the point... I don't understand it. Does anyone understand what I am trying to get at here?
It's like a contradiction to me... What do you think?

Let He Who is Without Sin Throw the First Stone!
I couldn't agree more with what you are saying. This really goes along with the whole reason why religions like this are wrong.
People do things to get to heaven, or some other really great place, and their actions are kind, but their motivations are always selfish. They do what they do simply for their own gain. They aren't actually good people, but rather selfish people. If doing good didn't get them anywhere, they wouldn't do it. God ought strike down everyone of these heathens and make the world a better place for those of us who do good for the sake of good!

Streets of Gold
Actually the meaning is that even what we consider valuable will be so unimportant that it can be used for the most prosaic of purposes.

You Sore Loser!
What do I think of Heaven? I think that in Heaven, people don't drop out of a chess game just because they are losing and need an excuse to get out of it!
That's right, Phat, I'm talking to you, and I'm using Danielle's topic to do it!

Forget Gold and Jewels
Don't forget that Islam added its own mutation and improved on the concept of paradise by adding sensual rewards. However, in keeping with tradition these rewards are somewhat male oriented.

Re: Forget Gold and Jewels
Most cultures associate their heaven with gold, and wealth... what about the thing with the guy that saw an "angel" and every time he'd get excited, a jewel would fall out of the sky, or his skin would seep gold... I thought that was interesting as well... God should not have purposes for shiny objects... I dont know it's weird to me

Re: Streets of Gold
I know the bible has it's romantic style writing, but I just feel it's a contradiction. We still look at the street, we walk on it... Does that mean it's there to serve us or just be below us... But we still look in wonder... Now I am confusing myself

Re: Streets of Gold
It means that in Heaven you will finally have your priorities right. All those things you used to consider important, like Gold and Pearls will be just so much construction material, stuff to walk and ride on.

Re: Streets of Gold
I heard that heaven is constant worship of God and singing for him.... Sounds like it sucks to me; why would we need streets and construction; why work in heaven? Don't we fly with wings... Nah I don't know no one knows for sure, my version of the realm of the dead is a lil different; but expensive objects in heaven will mean nothing, that makes sense to me.

Yeah, everybody sitting around worshiping God does sound like a suck job all around. The only God I can imagine wanting crap like that would be a Cat. Cats love to be worshiped.
But I also can't imagine a heaven without work, learning and constant growth.

My idea of heaven would be a giant toolbox and an endless supply of lumber.

Re: Streets of Gold
hahaha a cat, true... but If I go to heaven I will not want to work... I did it in this life; that was hell enough for me. But learning and growth shouldn't that be learned here on earth?
