RR, you really shouldn't try to defend that film. It us utterly stupid from start to finish. It is really quite wonderfully so. I am not defending the film. I am just pointing out how some of the people that they interview think, and why they think that way. Why they have no clue about the gospel.

I suspect that "interview" was scripted. I'm downloading the video now and haven't seen it, but the title is "evangelism 101." It's probably scripted, and they're probably not trying to pretend it's not in the original. It's probably a purposeful training video.

I don't see that your "prove it's not true" was refering to anything but the design of the banana claim. It certainly looked like you were defending the banana claim. Could you explain the format of your post? Message 55

I don't know about the whole banana thing, but over all it is a good show. You give me even more reason for thanking God for killing my television and setting me free! lfen

I don't know about the whole banana thing, but over all it is a good show. I thought you weren't defending it? It starts to sound like it. You know about the banana thing now. You'be been supplied the information. The show is utterly laughable. The intellectual level would be appropriate in a pre-school (at best).

I like the show because of the many points it brings out, and the interviews. I really don't think they are staged, because I have used "the ways of the master" and I get exactly the same responses on the streets, and with telemarketers. Try it yourself, it's easy.
It makes people aware of the gospel, and what it means. It brings to light the gift that God gave us and sending his son. I do not appreciate (now because of EVC) people who mix preaching with science, or creation science. I do not think that science has a place in the gospel. It's the gospel in a nutshell, in 3 minutes or less, and it works. Not because it's some fancy trick to undermine the unintelligent, but because the gospel itself is real, and it is powerful. To let people know they can get into heaven by just knowing Jesus, is a breath of fresh air. Especially for people who don't have a clue. Try this experiment. Ask people who believe in God to explain the gospel of Jesus Christ in a few words, and see what happens. Also ask catholics, or people that believe in the trinity what the Holy Spirit is. I bet you 90% can't answer effectively or incorrectly.

Ask people who believe in God to explain the gospel of Jesus Christ in a few words, and see what happens. Consider yourself asked. After you answer please explain why your answer is the correct one would you?

Consider yourself asked. After you answer please explain why your answer is the correct one would you? We all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of the Lord. Jesus bore the punishment for us, by giving His life, and all we have to do is "believe" in Him, and we are forgiven. We get to go to heaven. I believe this to be the correct answer based on following the teachings of Jesus, and being confirmed by the Holy Spirit.

What different answer? You could try the apostles' example in Acts. A long time ago, I collected a bunch of tracts and outlined the gospel contained in them. I then went through the 12 places I could find in Acts where the apostles actually preached to the lost, and I outlined those speeches (several were very short, but there were several long ones, too). I was stunned at the difference. You should try it some time, because your answer was basically exactly the outline I found in the tracts (and that I was taught in Evangelism Explosion and the Southern Baptists' Continuing Witness Training).

quote: There are, indeed, very different messages delivered by many, many people, each of whom who profess to know and understand the One Truth. There very well may be a God, or gods. But since all of those professing to have the One Truth can't possibly all be correct if their messages are different, what's a poor seeker of Truth to do?

It makes people aware of the gospel, and what it means. It brings to light the gift that God gave us and sending his son. As I recall, the stated intention of the video was to help true believers convince atheists. It seem you think that is it's purpose and that it is good at it. However, let's say there are two kinds of atheists; the utterly stupid and the moderately smart. The even a little bit smart will simply laugh at the idiocy of the video and have their views of true believers confirmed still further (if they have been exposed to some of those on a site like this ). The stupid ones might say "Wow, I hadn't thought of that." Of course, the first time they hand a banana to an atheist who is of the slightly smart type they will have the stupidity of the video pointed out and be that much less likely to be fooled next time. All in all, a video that might be very good for fooling the true believers into feeling good but not one that will be useful for convincing anyone not already convinced (or very stupid).
