Spezziall
Is there something special about Texas?
As a born-and-raised Texan (though still in Missurah), I can give you several answers.
The best Mexican Food
Good manners
Beautiful Hill country
Site of Kennedy assasination musem (Dallas)
Was once its own nation (see anything about the Texas Revolution and the Mexican-American War)
The Alamo (still standing, and a good tourist attraction).
Galveston (Home of big Texas Mardis Gras)
And a few other things icould mention but dont have the time to.

Midnight special??
I spent 5 years in Texas while in the army.
What part?
I dont care for mexican food.
Everybody's taste buds are different. But I've never had better Mexican food than that found in the lone Star State.
Where?
Around Austin, San Antonio, etc. Odessa and around there (North Western Texas) has some pretty hill country.
So was Hawaii, and Technically Vermont.
!
Vermont?! You reminded me about Hawaii, but VERMONT?!

No Habla specifico
I cant give you specifics; usually while on the road for a vacation i was often staring off into space, in my own world (Whether that was caused by autism or not i can't tell). I just remember going from deep east Texas to Austin, San Antonio, Amarillo, etc, and noticing some of the country along the way. I remember seeing numerous huge green hills before I found myself just outside of San Antonio, and i remember seeing some big hills nearby Austin (Inside city limits, where the universities are, there are a lot of liberals (many people on here would find it welcoming , but once you get out into the country roads and the hills, its Hillbilly USA (a few hippies can be found there too.)
Now mountains are said to be found near El Paso and Big Bend national park, Though I've been to neither, sad to say

Minor Point

You must know something I don't as I far prefer the Mexican food found in selected restaurants in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Socorro, New Mexico. Out here it is TexMex, jalapenos instead of green chile, and what is that brown sauce? yecch!
Around Austin, San Antonio, etc. Odessa and around there (North Western Texas) has some pretty hill country.
Odessa? you must have that place confused with somewhere else. Odessa is in the middle of a dead flat semi desert punctuated primarily by pumpjacks and oil refineries. IIRC even one of the most famous Texas authors, J. Frank Dobie, called it the ugliest terrain he had ever seen.

Mole? If so, then that's good stuff. And not Tex-Mex, but rather pure Mexican. I first had it in Taxco and my Mexican in-laws would serve left-over turkey in it for the family dinner after Thanksgiving.
And if it's not mole, then what is that brown sauce? yecch!

Re: Minor Point

? I dont remember ever seeing a "Brown sauce" at a Mexican restaraunt, unless it was put on enchiladas or perhaps Fajitas. I've seen guacamole and Red sauce ("Margaritas" has the best i've tasted so far, really homemade style)but never a "Brown sauce" as a dip.
I've never had mexican food in Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Socorro; I've never been any of those cities (I did go through New Mexico once, but never had their Mexican food). Next time i go i'll sample some.
Odessa? You must have that place confused with somewhere else.
MY bad I remember going onto a trip in North west Texas and visiting close by there. I saw some hill country but Like i said earlier, i was off in my own world at the time. Odessa and Midland (think its closeby Odessa) are real flat. That trip I took may have been further east, but it has been a long time ago.
