Let's talk about drugs

I hadn't really considered this before, but how demonised must cannabis be!
All those greedy companies and governments are still too scared to touch it with a barge-pole.Considering how much cash is rolling in from the sale of alcohol: what is stopping a full-on advocacy of cannabis?
It can't be moral considerations - business and government consistently display a lack morals.
All I can think of is some kind of cultural brainwashing that makes people think that dope is worse than alcohol.But I am finding it difficult to identify any of this brainwashing.
Is it just a hangover (no pun intended) from those black and white "Reefer Madness" films?

Why would they care about who is using the drug?
Surely, they just want the money.Afterall, they are happy to sell Buckfast...
Buckfast 'in 5,000 crime reports' I am puzzled by their refusal to grab the cannabis cash-cow by both horns and shake every last "pot head stoner losers" dollar out of it.

Yes, I can see how the 'abstinence crowd' would be against cannabis.Over here, in Europe, we don't have that excuse.
The UK (for example) is quite secular - and we are strangely proud of our alcohol problems - but cannabis is still viewed with some disgust.
We have had several public figures and scientists advocating it legalisation, but I expect them to be ignored.

The same goes for medicinal uses.
You can be prescribed Methadone (which is as bad as heroine) but you can't be prescribed cannabis. I am sure there is more than one piece to the puzzle, and that sounds like one of them.

TBH: That whole story sounds weird. Something else was going on, maybe. I agree.

Firstly, this famous quote is actually fallacious.
It is an 'argument from ignorance': "I cannot think of any other reason - therefore it must be true".The rest of your post appears to be referencing something I am unfamiliar with and should not be taken at face value.
