Guinness and Evolution in the UK

Anyone from these shores seen the awesome new Guinness advert?For those who haven't, check it out at Guinness AdTry watching it with a creationist as I did last night... adds to the fun

I find it irrationally annoying since it doesn't depict an actual evolutionary pathway. But that's just me.

Great ad but a badly pulled pint of Guinness pumped through dirty pipes still tastes like the stuff that must have made up Darwins "warm little pond"

though I have one minor beef.The add seems to imply that 3 proto-birds were part of their ancestry which is incorrect.

You've obviously not met many english guinness drinkers...

The ad clearly animates the transmigration of three souls, not the evolution of a kind.

I'm an English Guiness drinker and I don't get that joke!Funny advert though!

You may or may not be glad to know that Guinness brewing in England is coming to a halt and production shifting to Dublin. You will at last be able to get you hands on a pint of Guinness as it is meant to taste. Quite different to the English pint, a bit sharper but a cleaner, more distinct taste

Just 'cos there moving production over there doesn't mean we will be getting stuff that tastes the same as it does in Dublin (though I hope we do).Guinness has deliberately brewed many different variants for sale in different markets for many years so they could just decide to brew stuff in Dublin that tastes just like the stuff from the defunct one in London.As Coca-Cola will tell you, changing the taste of an established product can be a really bad move - Guinness Classic anyone? A couple of years ago or so there was an article on Newsnight about them starting to brew a new variant for sale in Ireland aimed at the Nigerian (I think - definitely one of the African countries) community. As I recall the story Nigerian Guinness is a lot stronger than the normal Irish variety and the Nigerians were smuggling loads in from Africa to satisfy their thirst. Guinness basically saw this as a marketing opportunity and so started producing a new stronger brew specifically for the Nigerian community in Ireland.I'm sure if they can do it for them they can do it for the UK market.

Mmm. Good point. Although I imagine it is impossible to make the primary ingredient of Guinness, water, taste like the stuff-called-water-but-really-isn't that passes for water in London.Wasn't there some tale about a cup of tap water in London having already passed through 7 humans by the time you get to drink it. Ace for recycling if not for taste

Do you really think there's a single atom of water on the planet that, after a billion years of living things, hasn't been pissed out of something at some point?

I meant before it went back into the ocean/cloud/rain/reservoir (re)cycle. It doesn't go for sewage water though as far as I know - just the other waste water

Then I guess I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you saying that London water has the piss of seven people in it? Again, probably true of any source of water you're likely to find.
