Just the little ol' country of saudi ariba for on, where it is illegal to be a christian. And what Christians have been imprisoned for breaking this law? How many executed for being a Christian? Do you happen to have a translated text of the law? What is, by the way, your source for this information?

I did a bit of quick googling and it does seem to be that you can be arrested for openly being Christian in Saudi Arabia, and people have been imprisoned.
Didn't read about any executions, though. I would ask Jesus Freak, though, to explain why our government doesn't invade Saudi Arabia because of it's persecution of it's people?

Wow! In Irag the Christians were, as I understand, not so persecuted until the US invaded. You're right then, I presume the Saudi's are next on the invasion list.
Of course, it occurs to me that you can be arrested in the US for being too muslim. I guess it works both ways.

Wow! In Irag the Christians were, as I understand, not so persecuted until the US invaded. My understanding is that until the first Gulf War (when Saddam played the Islam card to try and rally support in the rest of the Arab world) Iraq was pretty secular. It was an Islamic country in the same sort of way that Britain is a Christian country. In fact the Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz was a Christian. I have read that his position owed quite a bit to being both a token non-Muslim and not a member of the Tikriti clan. Confused ? You will be...

Why, Lam! You got some glasses! I can hardly notice them, however.
Now you can really see what Bush will be up to next!

I've often thought that Islam as implemented in places like Saudi Arabia bears a strong resemblance to Christianity in Europe back in the Middle Ages. The level of intolerance in England extended to physically expelling all Jews from the country for over 350 years (1290 - 1656). The city where I live was in the news a while back because the charter it was founded on (around 1231) contains the clause :
No Jew or Jewess in my time or in the time of any of my heirs to the end of the world shall inhabit or remain or obtain a residence in Leicester, The target of the intolerance may have been different but ultimately it comes down to the same thing. It's seems to me that fundamentalist Islam needs something like the Renaissance or the Reformation (without the centuries of subsequent warfare) to consign sects like the Wahabis in Saudi to the dustbin of history where they belong. Sadly it seems some Christians want to take us back to those same Middle Age outlooks. Confused ? You will be...

Because as wrong as it may be, saudia arabia is our allie, and they have done some favors for us over the years. (Such as letting us base our troops there in 91, though recently they have been screwing us over)
About them exacuting the Christians, i doubt if they do it OFFICALLY, but they do support terrorist cells. There is another country in africa also that is split in half by religion, and the richer muslims in the northern half regualy come down and raid the southern half filled with Christians.

We didn't go into Iraq because of religous laws, and you are right, Iraq was not an extreamist islam country. Iraq supported those terrorists, but were not that themselves. What we stopped was the torturing of olimpic teams if they diddn't get a meddal. What we stopped was the cutting of Iraqi's ears if they didn't become bathist.

quote: Iraq was our ally when they were at war with Iran, but we invaded them anyway. Remember this famous photo?:
Oh, and we have the kind of tolerant relationship with Saudi Arabia that we do BECAUSE OF THE OIL. BECAUSE OF THE OIL. BECAUSE OF THE OIL.
quote: Right. So why don't we invade them? Why did we invade Iraq?

quote: Correct.
quote: They did? They supported the 9/11 terrorists? How? I thought that the 9/11 hijackers were almost all Saudis, and I thought that the attack was orchestrated by Osama bin Laden with the aid of the Taliban in Afghanistan. Am I (and the 9/11 Congressional Commission) wrong?
quote: Yeah. 100,000+ dead Iraqi civilians can't be tortured, that's for sure. So, when are we going to be invading all of those African countries to stop the genocide of MILLIONS of people by those dictators?

Those african countrys arn't a threat to us or NATO.
What exactly do you count as civilians, the bomb toting people in t-shirt and shorts? The AK-74 carrying person who has a family? Also, does that include all the civilians the Iraqi terrorists have blown up? In war, civilians will get hurt. It is not right, but it is a fact of life that happens however hard we try to avoid it.

Your right, we made a mistake in supporting Saddam, so now we are trying to correct that mistake.

I think that "We made a mistake in supporting Saddam, so now we are trying to correct that mistake" is a wonderful idea and title for a new "Coffee House" topic. Use one of the "Post New Topic" buttons on this page.
