Force Lightning and Life Drain are more powerful than any Light Side force skill. Being "evil" in KotOR is a power trip once you develop your dark side skills.

Re:
I could just play Starcraft all my life. I've played through every campaign (original and Brood War) about ten times by now... except that last damn level in Brood War. For some reason, I can't beat it. I've been close a dozen times, only to get swarmed and die. I'm missing something. Well, I've never been that good anyway.
Has anybody been following the Starcraft Ghost game? It's well over a year behind schedule now, but I'm patiently waiting for it. Ghosts are one of my fave units in Starcraft and it could be a pretty sweet game, from what I've seen so far. I think they're saying February 2005 now.

Has anybody been following the Starcraft Ghost game?
I have, to some degree. It sounds really cool, but I've heard that they can't quite decide if they're going to make a stealthy creeper game or a run-and-gun fragfest. And apparently Blizzard has farmed out the project, so I'm a bit dubious.

Yeah, something about all these delays and indecision kinda lessens your confidence in a game, no? Like there must not be a clear vision behind it. It's a shame, because the ghost unit from SC is obviously compelling and detailed enough to inspire its own game world, and there need be no vacillation on its nature if they just extrapolate from what was established in the RTS. Stealthy creeper is cool, but it does need elements of run-and-gun. The ghost doesn't have a lot of firepower or hitpoints and relies on stealth to survive at all, but it is a versatile character with lots of nasty tricks to play. I wish they'd just get off their ass and put out something....

i simply invent very creative names to call the things that are killing me. i'm like a sailor on acid.
We should compare profanity notes. Creative swearing is pretty much the only reason I play some games.

Re:
I have beaten it a few times. I don't remember exactly what I did, I'll have to go back to one of the old saved games and see what I played. I've been mostly playing the maps against two or three AI opponents. Quite a challenge. The computer is enamored of a massive early rush - usually 12 Zealots or a nasty combination of zerglings, hydrolisks, and lurkers. The only good thing is that when the computer is playing Terran, it's fairly easy to beat (no idea why) the rush.
I love ghosts as well. When four maxed ghosts can take out 12 battlecruisers (using lockdown, and then having some anti-air unit take out the frozen cruisers), you know you have a key unit.

Re:
Damn I hate those early rushes. I can build up and wage strategic war pretty well, but surviving the first 10 minutes is such a hassle.

Re:
Hee hee. No kidding. You really should try C&C Tiberian Sun. Somewhat simpler resource, etc, and doesn't have the marvelous unit differentiation (Starcraft really does require three different strategies), but it can be a lot of fun.
When playing Starcraft, which race do you prefer? I mostly play Terran, because I haven't found a better winning combination than seige tanks/battlecruisers when I finally get around to assaulting the enemy base areas.

Re:
I may have to check that out. Sounds pretty cool.
I don't have much preference - I play a pretty even mix of races and really enjoy them all. I like to play Zerg on island maps because spore colonies are so badass compared to the other defensive structures, and guardians are one of my fave units for bombardment. Terrans are very versatile, and even simple marines can do a lot of damage - especially with medics attached. I find Protoss the best for huge buildups and assaults, though - with observers in place to guide a careful assault, the destruction I can wreak with 8-10 carriers and a mess of air-dropped Zealots is truly beautiful to behold

Perhaps we shoud play.
Anyone want to try and set up some Starcraft online games? or other online games? My CD's are still back in Boston but next time I'm there I'll pick them up.
We could even be our own clan!
(Although I remember I would always lose against everyone in online RTS games)

Hello Halo 2
They will have a run for their money. I figured I would be totally disappointed with Halo 2 since it was so hyped. I am into the second chapter and it is awesome so far. The enemies are really smart and there have already been several jaw dropping surprises..even in the middle of a pitched battle ( note to self, letting jaw drop in pitched battle = having to reload after my death sequence ) .
If Starcraft wants to compete, they will have to outdo Halo 2..and from what I have heard, Half-Life 2 as well.
Of course they could just do a "Duke Nukem Forever" and work on a game they have no intention of ever releasing.

Online games are no go with me, since my internet connection is shaky. But if anyone in Chicago wants to swing by for a round of Soul Calibur II or Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, feel free.

If I were still in Saint Louie, I'd take you up on that. Alas, the gulf coast is a bit far. Maybe some day.

Brilliant Video Game journalism
Here's a moving piece that shows how video game journalism can rise above simple holiday shopping guides. On one hand, this is just a guy who was skillful/got lucky in a video game. On the other hand, this guy was a real hero, in the sense of "good v. evil", unscripted-heroics, legitimately badassitude. A hero to gamers, anyway.
