From where I stand, out here in the Northwest, gays are accorded all sorts of kindness and respect.

Yep. You saw some dudes kiss, and not get beaten down. As a result, no one has ever killed a homosexual for being gay. Ever.

For instance, Matthew Shepherd? The liberal media won't tell you that he was really tied to a fence post, slathered with kisses, and then set free. He's now alive and well, and, ironically enough, the manager of a Dairy Queen.

Ned... I agree, civil unions for everybody would be fair. Although, if anyone is so desparate to keep gay people from getting married that they'd rather do away with all government recognition of marriage, then that says some extremely nasty things about the person in question.

Unless sexuality somehow negates the fourteenth amendment, sure they are.

You know, it's possible you've never read the fourteenth amendment. I know we've posted it several times, but it's still seems pretty likely that you just sorta scanned it and thought, "I choo-choo-choose you." Here, I'll throw it out one more time.

Dan Carroll brought out the Constitution and read us an Ammendment. Nice job, Dan. But where does it say anything about same-sex "marriages"? Where does it say anything about homosexuality? Where does even say anything about sexuality at all?

That's what I asked you to find, Ralph. See, I found you the part where it guarantees all citizens equal treatment. Unless you can point to a clause that says homosexuals aren't citizens, or that the equal protection doesn't count when it comes to homosexuals, the matter's settled; homosexuals, being citizens of the country, get equal treatment.

If straight people can get married, so can gay people.

Do you honestly believe that the framers of our Constitution...

I know for a fact that I already pointed out to you, in a different thread, that the fourteenth amendment was not written by the framers of our Constitution.

I guess you did just glance at it and think, "It says choo-choo-choose you, and there's a picture of a train!"

It says nothing about it one way or the other. Their prejudices weren't written into it. And knowing that they'd get some things wrong, they left the ability to amend it. Which we've done several times, one instance of which is that fourteenth amendment, which you keep avoiding.

I can understand why you're avoiding it. If one actually sits and reads the fourteenth amendment, there's no way to avoid allowing gay marriage.

That's okay, though. At this point, I'm sure no one here expects you to be able to read.

Everything said so far on this thread and others about "gay marriage" are OPINIONS. Nothing else.

Except for the part where I quoted you the relevant law that guarantees equal treatment for all citizens, and cited legal precedents so you could see how that law applies to this exact situation.

Then, of course, there was that part where Taz posted links to medical studies that pissed on your opinions about choice.

But yes... if you go ahead and ignore all that, I suppose you could call what's left "opinion."

Except for the business about you being exactly like a bigoted version of Ralph Wiggum. That's just objective fact.

So take a public vote on same-sex "narriage" and see what you get.

Cool. But since we have to treat all citizens equally, when do you want to schedule the vote on your "marriage?"
