Congrats on the birth, Jazzn!
May he be all you hope for.Any chance, his nickname's gonna be "Alighieri"? "The good Christian should beware the mathematician and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of hell." - St. Augustine

Hi Jazzns,
Congratulations!!! I joined the club of the happy and sleepless in January. My daughter just learned the tricks of smiling and laughing about a week ago. It's a great trick for her since she can get me and her mother to do just about anything she wants with it. Enjoy the time...you won't believe how fast they change even when you see them every day. Added to note; Welcome to the "transitional" club as well This message has been edited by Mammuthus, 03-06-2006 09:58 AM

congratulations and good luck with the screaming. my advice is simple. know that he will make mistakes and love him because of them not in spite of them. let him make them because then he can grow. always help him back up, but do let him fall.
oh and get him swim lessons at six months. the sooner the better, before he has a chance to be afraid. go to a swim america school. they have great instructors. *pats self on back*

Also, in my limited (7.5 week) experience ..a baby will scream for a reason. Whether it be he is hungry or needs a diaper change. My wife and I have also found that if our daughter has an intense day i.e. meets a lot of new people/ sees a lot of new faces, she tends to have a crying fit in the evening. As if she has to work off the stress of so much novelty. But that will also fade with time as the baby gets used to social interactions...for my part, I live for my baby girl smiling at me.

By the way jazzns..how are things going with Dante? New father experience on my side, little one does not like immunizations..had her first last week, ran a fever, and was really unhappy for two days.
But has started to attempt to talk (or at least make sounds while staring at you intensely)...long conversations with her mother..also is getting a bigger catalog of different laughs...she even laughs at my jokes (perhaps the first evidence of a miracle or at least scientifically unexplainable fact?)

Dante is great. He mostly only cries when he is hungry or tired.
He is starting to explore his world a bit. He tracks people and bright objects. He has learned to like his baths which makes them fun. He is still not very interactive but we are only at a month. Some of his milestones though are that he pretty much has control over his neck already when he is not being lazy. When we hold him over our shoulder he pops his head up like a little gopher to look around. When he is lying on his stomach he can already push himself up a bit to explore. I am not looking forward to the immunizations either. My wife had a bad reaction to the hep b series awhile back so I am kind of nervous. I understand the need for some of the other ones but it seems sort of weird to do hep b on a baby. It is not like they are exposed to many blood borne pathogens yet. We opted out of the hep b booster at the hospital when he was born since they just get a duplicate dose anyway when they start the series in a couple of months. I can't wait for the smiley interactive part. We have been trying to get him to mimic faces like they say newborns can but it is hard to tell between a college try and just coincidence. He is still tounge tied but it is stretching out a lot and looks like it will just take care of itself before it becomes a speech issue. If it doesn't I think we will opt for the surgery. As it stands he can stick his tounge out about 1/4 of the way. The area behind where it is connected has thinned considerably and looks like soon enough there will only be the connective tissue between the very tip of his tongue and the lower pallet. There's one photo in Message 1, but that's the only one. Can we get more photos? I'll post one of my grandson, age 14 months, when I get a chance.

Congrats, Jazzns! The first prayer was answered in that he is healthy! We all pray and hope that you will be either imparted with or educated into the wisdom necessary for being a great Dad! I know that you will just by reading your post and of how much you care for your wife!

This is from about 5 months ago, but I like this one. We had him out plowing the north 40 earlier in the day, then he regaled us through the evening with his virtuosity at the keyboard.

After a bath. He likes to stare at the patterns on our couch. Of course, biblical creationists are committed to belief in God's written Word, the Bible, which forbids bearing false witness; --AIG (lest they forget) |
