How strong are bears ounce per ounce?

Hello Mr Naturalist (a play on "Mr Natural" of those oversexed Crumb comics?).1. I do not think that anyone could tell you exactly how strong a bear is ounce for ounce, but there are some ways to show bear strength.They are far stronger than canines or cats of similar weight, using their power for attack and defense ("Bears" by Ian Sterling, pages 50-52, 61).Why are they so strong? Because of the way they are built; Short, stiff back, heavy paws, Huge limbs with muscles thick throughout(cats and dogsleg muscles taper down nearer the paw), and plantigrade paws (back ones fully plantigrade, front ones semi-plantigrade.) All these together makes for an impressive tank of a beast.And no, bears weight for weight would not be the strongest of mammals; due to squared cube law and the way muscles work, tiny mammals win. Badgers and wolverines would be far stronger than any bear (save maybe for cubs of equal size. Bear cubs are surprisingly strong).What can bears do with their strength? They can smash the back of a Bull, Bull Moose, Elk, and perhaps a Bison with one blow of its paw. They can use their arms to knock bulls down with one blow, as well as grab the Bull's horns andtwist the neck, breaking it. They can turn the head of an elk into a spash of gore with one paw swipe, and can fell cows and (according to some) decapitate horses with a paw swipe. They can lift horses right off the ground and slam them, kill and drago out Beluga whales three times their weight, carry a nearly one ton dead bull moose with ease, move boulders, dig massive holes in the ground, snap caibou necks with a good bite, break bamboo with their arms and then eat it(Giant Pandas and Asian Black bears), and kill both canines and big cats.Being built for strength, they are not as efficient as predators as big cats (especially the Tiger).Hope this helps and if anybody asks for sources to all of this; i may give some, but there is so little time to do so (school and all), so I will do what i can.
