Tal! I've been thinking about you!
Oh, and then there is Hugo Chaves who has been quoted as saying that he feels love and compassion for all the Arab people, and might actually be Arab himself.
You know, it's comments like this that tip us off that the thing that is really scaring you guys is that there are people in the world who aren't going to take their orders from Washington.

You mean the side of the people of his country, and the people of the third world that have been victims of Western imperialism? That sounds like the correct side to take to me.

Heh. I reckon I'll see you sooner when you folks begin rounding up all the dissidents and "interrogating" them. I've read The Gulag Archipelago -- I have no romantic illusions about what I can expect from you guys.

Looks like a Jr. ROTC program in the US. But my guess is that those kids aren't Americans (or allies), and therefore must be dangerous fanatics.

Is Tal a Quaker?
According to this BBC article, it seems that Tal isn't the only one who thinks that state organized military training for kids is a problem.

Re: Is Tal a Quaker?
What comparisons? You just posted pictures saying, "Be scared, kids, be very scared." Which is pretty typical of neo-con arguments -- lurid anectdotes with no context, very little true facts, and no logical development.
What is interesting is, despite how moronic the neo-con claims are, so little electoral fraud is necessary to keep the Republicans in power.

Keep in mind this is the country that sent thier children to the Iriania Egnineers in the Iran/Iraq war with gold keys tied around their necks. Then the engineers sent these children into minefields. The gold key was the key to paradise, so who cares if they blow up?
Actually, I have been having trouble verifying this, too.

Re: When generalized, the world is a scary place
Thanks, Tiger.
For some reason, I don't seem to be able to get the hang of Google. I really seem to have a hard time using it to find anything useful.
The article was written by Matthias Kntzel, who is a member of the Scholars for Peace in the Middle East which, along with The New Repbulic, appear to be apologists for Israel policy.
On the other hand, Kntzel also appears to be a legitimate academic.
At any rate, I also am having a difficult time getting information about these "children" being used as human mine clearers beyond people just saying that it happened. It is possible, I guess -- it would be consistent with Iran "human wave" tactics against Iraqi positions. Still, calling teen-agers "children" seems...odd to me. The obvious appeal to emotion along with that these claims seem to be confined to pro-Israel policy sites leads me to maintain at least some doubt.

Re: George Bush has turned PC
Heh. By coincidence, I've just read a pretty good essay by Katha Pollitt in a recent issue of The Nation.
From the President's August 21 press conference: Q: "But what did Iraq have to do with September 11?" A: "Nothing." Now he tells us!
More to the point of Tal's "analysis", though:
It doesn't matter, either, that Iraqi Sunnis and Shiites seem less interested in uniting the umma than in murdering one another. With luck we'll be so scared we won't ask why anyone should listen to another word from people who were spectacularly wrong about the biggest politico-military initiative of the past thirty years, and their balding heads will continue to glow on our TV screens for many nights to come.
