I make foam-padded swords and then me and my buddies fight with them.
Also I play video games with my wife and listen to rap music.
And I waste a lot of time posting here.

Recently spent some time getting my Myth box up and running in case my Tivo dies - Tivo is effectively extinct over here now . My Myth is close to fully working now.
Hey I just built one of those, myself. If you didn't spring for a tuner card with hardware compression, I'd recommend adding one along the way - you get a lot of neat features that way. For instance I can watch live TV on my Mac laptop, anywhere in the apartment, over my 802.11g network. Very cool. I use the Hauppauge PVR-150MCE - cheap and effective under the IVTV 3.x drivers.
I'm currently looking at the best way to transfer ~25 years of 35mm photos (just snapshots - nothing too high quality) to digital format to put them into Myth.
I'd either use an automatic slide scanner, or I'd send the photos off to a good production house and pay them to do it. It's a mind-numbing task to do it yourself on a flatbed scanner, probably not worth your time. The production house will have a stack-fed scanner that they can use.

So let me ask you people out there . why do drivers hate bikers so much?
Because the time that your speed drops to its slowest is also the time that it's the least safe for me to pass you - going uphill. So I really have no choice but to tail your ass at 12 mph all the way up the damn hill before I can safely get around you.

But that doesn't bother me (as the biker, that is...you, as the driver, probably hate it). It's the assholes that DO try to pass, effectively running me off the road cuz they're such impatient fuckheads that waiting 30 seconds or so til it's safe to pass is way too big of an impact on their oh so very important lives, that bother me.
I'm usually about to be late, though; as a rule I don't show up early for work because I don't get paid any more for it. And I have the local stoplights timed to the minute.
Your 30-second slow ass is gonna make me 5 minutes late.

I guess I understood his use of "hobby" to refer to the enthusiasm with which he pursued that evocation, not the frequency that he did so.
I hoist a pint (or more) with my pals maybe once every two weeks; I have hobbies that I pursue less frequently than that. Maybe RR's just really enthusiastic about beers, wines, and liquors.
I would think a professional gormand like yourself would see a kindred spirit in that.

Re: My drinking routine
I reckon in any case, that if life has no externally-derived meaning then there is no such thing as wasting time - which could be said to be spending time in a meaningless (or in a less-than-optimally-meaningful) way
Oddly enough, I agree. If you're doing what you choose to do, then I don't see how your time is being "wasted."

Re: Project Feeder Watch
With all that, why does he need to? Honestly, the arrogance of the believer. A vast world of natural beauty and delight, and it's still not enough for some people.
