Err, yeah. MoM is turn-based, like Master of Orion. I tend to lump turn-based strategy games into the generic RTS "kind", erroneously I admit. It's just easier to say RTS than turn-based-strategy. Sorry for the confusion. Allegedly, they're finally (after what, 5 years?) going to publish an updated version. Supposedly they're going to wait to see how well MoOIII does in the market, then make the decision to release the new MoMII. Keep your fingers crossed.

Aren't there any RTS gamers out there? What's with all you science types and the shoot-em-ups (or slice-em-ups as I was corrected earlier)? No one wants to argue about the relative merits of Protoss over Zerg? Your take on standfast orders for grenadiers vs cuirassiers? No?
Hehehe, where you think the nick came from ?
Though now I play Warcraft III, but honestly I haven't played a truely 'fun' game, as opposed to an addictive game in a long time.
Over 500 wins with Elf
Having said that though, Medal of Honour, Need for Speed and Worms are pretty enjoyable titles, also a game called 'Silver' from infogrames was stunning. Graphics, soundtrack, storyline, everything.

Units on the evolution side will have the overpowering weapons of logic, education, and evidence from multiple disciplines. They will have a technology tree which allows them to experiment and produce more supportive data and the capacity to build testable hypotheses. The offsetting weakness of the different units (such as paleontologist, molecular biologist etc.) will be that they don't agree on the fine points of evolutionary theory which can be used by the opposing side to claim that the entire theory is in trouble.
LOL. Pretty funny post.
It would have to be a 'age of empires' kinda game, but on a much greater scale as evolution takes so darn long

By way of continuation from my first post, I'd just like people to know that Final Fantasy Tactics Advance rocks, and is the best game for the Game Boy Advance I've played yet. So in case anyone needs a new game for their GBA, pick it up. Especially if you liked the first FF: Tactics game for Playstation.
(I guess it counts as a strategy game, so here's one science-type who's into strategy games, Quetzal.

Is Medal of Honor any good? I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein and then sort of got tired of the WWII genre but kept hearing that MOH was a great game.

Yep, pretty awesome really. I'd say substantially better than Ret to C.W. Nice if you have surround sound speakers and time to really get into it.

City of Heroes
Is anybody else playing this? It pretty much rocks. Dan Carroll I would think this was up your alley.
I just started but it'd be nice to team up with other folks that were already on. I'm not too far with any character so starting over on a new server wouldn't be a big problem.

Still on vacation, but in hiding
Let's just say this: No matter who you're with, you'll get a little sick of them after 9 days and you'll need to hide away. Fortunately, I happen to have hidden away in the room with a slow computer and a PS2 at the moment.
Crashfrog, you've just earned more awesomeness points than you did in the Van Helsing thread because FFT was great. All this talk about computer games scares me, but I do have a go at console games once in awhile.
Tactics came out in about 3rd or 4th grade for me, and all I remember about my first time through is that I redid the first real battle three times because I didn't know you could add more party members other than the main characters to the team. Oh, and since I hated chemists I didn't get any magic users till the second chapter...
But then I played it again. And again. and again. After 7 times through last year, I finally noticed what a deep plot it has and the religious undertones that were brilliant. Speaking of which, has anybody played Xenogears? That thing makes you think, along with just about every squaresoft game because they rule.
Right now I'm going to get off the slow computer(it took me an hour and a half of loading just to read all my emails and get around this website. Most of which was spent playing Worms 3D on the PS2.) If anyone here hasn't played any worms games, you need to. Or you're a baba.

Wanna feel God? Step onto the wrestling mat and you'd be crazy to deny the uplifting spirit. http://www.BadPreacher.5u.com (incomplete, but look anyway!)

Re: Still on vacation, but in hiding
Mmm, I played Xenogears back when it was first released, and also grabbed a copy recently since it was released as a greatest hits.
I like it a lot. It does have some tendencies to go over the top a bit at the end, and it's rather confusing at the beginning. But I must say I enjoyed it quite a lot more the second time through (and getting a bit older, too).
PS. The Holy Handgrenade works great as a weapon in Worms (despite the ripoff/homage).

Did you understand what the heck happened at the end? I figured it as there was some Divine Force beyond the Wave Existence and Diaz that made one of the characters repent and sprout angel wings at the end, but maybe it said something else?

Re: Still on vacation, but in hiding
Okay, this will take a bit. MASSIVE spoilers for everyone who is interested in playing the game, but hasn't already. Stop reading now. On the other hand, you probably won't understand half of what I'm talking about anyway.
If you need some further explanations to the concepts/persons of Krelian or Deus, let me know.
On to the ending.
There is this existance outside the normal universe. It has existed there forever and is sometimes visualised as a sea of waves. It's sort of similar to the concept of a world soul in some eastern religions. From this plane, waves 'spilled' out and created what we call the universe. The Wave Existance is a sentient manifestation of this plane which is trapped in a physical object. Deus gets it's energy from that object. Whenever anyone use the word 'god' in the ending, it's refering to this plane or the spiritual essense of it and not in any way to a diety.
Deus is almost destroyed after you fight (and defeat) it. This frees the Wave Existance, and when the WE returns to it's 'home', it triggers a chain reaction which effectively turns the object the WE was trapped in into a large bomb because of the energy released. Elly, who is still merged with Deus, wants to save the planet by moving the whole thingie out into space (sacrificing herself so that everyone else may live). Of course, Fei goes off to save her, and flies up and merges with Deus too.
There, Fei's 'soul' or mind meet with Elly's and Krelian's. (Krelian being the main 'enemy' in the game).
In the plane of existance that the WE comes from, there are no such thing as sorrow or pain. Krelian wants to force mankind to sort of merge with or go to that place. This would essentially erase all the hardship that it means to live as humans (very similar to the concept of Nirvana).
Fei does not want this. It would mean that everything individual would be lost, and you wouldn't be human anymore. He knows that even though there are times of sorrow, there are also times of love. The final battle is a sort of symbolic battle of hope and showing that life in itself has value.
With the defeat of Krelian, he realizes or accepts that what he wish for might not be perfect, and that it is not his right to force people into it. Instead, he chose to leave this world alone and let the people on the planet lead their lives. The wings sort of show that he is now leaving this world for the 'salvation' of the next one.
Of course, then everything starts to fall appart and Fei and Elly escapes when everyone thought they died and everyone get all giggly when they see that they survived and you have the happy but slightly comlicated ending concluded.
Note that there is an abundant amount of references to Christian and Judaic names, but in many cases, their meaning in the game is quite different than from the direct lore. For example, what Deus does to/for humanity is not at all flattering. It's important that you don't get offended by the large amount of 'blasphemy' in how the story use various terms and concepts.

Re: City of Heroes
Just noticed my name here now. No, haven't played it, heard it's freakin' great.
The game I'm obsessed with right now is the PS2 collection of the first eight Megaman games on one disc. Lordy be, it's like I'm back in junior high, but without the soul-wrenching awkwardness, despair, and directionless anger.
Between that, I-Ninja, Dragonball Z: Budokai 2, and Final Fantasy 7 (yes, I'm behind the times on that franchise) my video game dance card is full for the moment.

On a backwards river the infidels shiver in the stench of belief.
And tell my mama I'm a hundred years late; I'm over the rails and out of the race
The crippled psalms of an age that won't thaw are ringing in my ears"

It's awesome. If you get into it, maybe I'll run into you on the Triumph server.

Oh yeah, that came out for Game Cube, too. I totally want to pick that up but I'm at my video game allotment for the month. I wish that they had made it for Game Boy Advance; I can't imagine the hardware couldn't run it. I know they have a MM Game Boy anthology but it's just the first 5 old Game Boy games, not the NES ones. Too bad...
Yeah. Go Metal Blade!

Aw, they'd probably have to lop the special features off the Megaman disc, but they could get at least the first six games on a gameboy cartridge. That little gameboy advance is at least as powerful as a supernintendo. At the very least, there's no reason they shouldn't be re-releasing games like, say, Final Fantasy 3 or Chronotrigger for GBA.
Except that all the Playstation re-releases of supernintendo games are still in print, but you know what I mean.
I have to stop myself from buying the GBA re-release of the first Super Mario Bros every time I'm in Gamestop... it's painful.
