quote: I've been a butcher, a solider, I've been a student and I've been a teacher. I've loved, I've lost, I've been saved and I've been lost. I've traveled the globe starting with with $200 in my pocket and a small backpack. Let me get this straight - You've never worked, you've never been anywhere, you've never done anything? What is it you plan to teach me about life and how I should live? What is you plan to teach Jar et al? Everyone had a right to speak but don't be surprised when people laugh at your (not very) "profound" statements. Edited by CK, : No reason given.

quote: Wait, you provided a post with some substance? Which one was it?
quote: No it's the earnest, earnest nature we find funny - and I think the reason most of us find it funny is not because of you, but because I bet we can all remember one "groan" moment from our teenager years when we were equally as profound and earnest. Edited by CK, : No reason given.

Here's a scenario based upon a real-life event that occurred a few years ago in the UK.
A man entered a gunshop and pointed a gun to the owner's head, he then told the assistant to load a pistol and shot him dead - if she did not, he would kill the owner. Would you have done? Edited by CK, : typos and gender.

quote: How true! I might have to nick that for a signature - when I was young, I was shocked how dumb my father was. Now I'm older, I hope that one day, I'll be half as clever and decent as him (and I feel the same way about my older brother).

it's quite laughable how you talk about confirmity and then quote Jesus.
quote: I find actions count for more than words - let's see how much you confirm and therefore plug into the system. 1) Do you live with or without money? 2) If you live with money, where does it come from? 3) Do you make your own clothes? 4) Do you provide your own healthcare? 5) Do you go to an organized church or pray on your own to the New Gods in your garden? Practice what you preach.
quote: I mentioned this before but it's worth repeating - I'm guess most of us find prophex's comments funny more than anything. They represent a innocence about the world that we all had but don't anymore and we find it funny because it reflects (for many of us) how we were at a similar age. Edited by CK, : No reason given. It funny how you can waxy all day about various philosophical and ontological concern but cannot answer simple questions as put forward by Schraf, myself and others.
Is it just the fact that you don't practice what you preach (well recycle really) and are unable to answer that prevents your response?Don't be surprised if people dismiss you as a bullshitter if you are unable to answer such "trite" questions. ikabod writes: clearly he has1. never had to live with out money because he has none or no one to give him some 2. he has never had to work to 12 days to earn enough money for one poor meal 3.he has never hunted rubbish heaps for rags to wear . 4.he has never suffered alone 5.he demands of god his own vision and purpose , with no need to conform ore follow . is all this ultra harsh ... i think not if one can spend time debating Kant or whoever is this weeks topics flavour , can spend time working out where best to move to to be a music super star , then one can look at the places in this world where it is ugly and mean and people struggle to survive with out the time to consider the bright shinning theroies on the purpose of life .. That post seems to have hit the nail on the hit. MOO I take it your non-answer means you sponge off your father while you enjoy the privilege of having hours to sit and ponder your great message.

I tend to miss that interaction those days, when I lecture, I tend to have 300 of them and the faces blur. However when I was an honest-to-god School teacher I used to see it all the time.
Ah good times (well except for the riot control aspect of the job). Edited by CK, : No reason given. Edited by CK, : No reason given.

I tend to find that Asian students are a) not very good on word limits and b) like essay and exam questions to have AN ANSWER.
I'm constantly asked what THE ANSWER is to any type of question that I set (not that I do much of that, I'm pure research, I only teach a module a year to keep my hand in).

I think that Neo didn't like the simple and obvious question to his line of "break out of the system man!" or being called a sponger - I know I wouldn't like to be called out as a hypocrite.
Let's face it, we already know there is no answer that he can give that will not reveal him as such. Edited by CK, : No reason given.

See this is the problem with being a fan of dance music - the lyrics are not that quotable...

The questions seem self-evident to me - however Charlie seems to be struggling with them, so let's try a different example.
Bert Thompson was one of the leading lights of Apologetic press - and in that capacity, used to write long pseudo-scientific pieces about the evil of homosexuality and people giving into sin. Only problem was that Bert enjoyed bouncing 17 year old boys off his lap - he was a hypocrite and his actions did not match his words. In the same way, Prophex is advocating one lifestyle but actually seems to be suckling on the teat of capitalism while he does it. That would seem to make him a hypocrite. However it could be that he's not a hypocrite and therefore his actions reflect his words of profound wisdom. How do we determine this without asking those straight forward questions? This is very easy to clean-up, Prophex just needs to inform us how he is putting his fine words into action and is not actually full of shit. I hope my response is straightforward and clear enough for all to understand. Edited by CK, : Doh! don't want that wikipedia link.
