you can just add a device once you log on with the same profile. each device can have different settings (so work computer only works while on screen saver, but home one works constantly in the background).
the device profile manager is at
World Community Grid

I don't think there's any point to adding my work machine, seeing as I might get in trouble and it already runs too many important programs.
First off talk to work to make sure it is okay to use the machine. It may also be possible to sign up others and have the company take a charity credit.
Then, it is possible to set the device profile so that it only operates at night and on weekends (you can set the hours for each day). You'll have to create a profle ( say "work" ) to do it rather than just use the default profile.

Re: Pegged Processors
not all computers like having their processor pegged all the time. When they write a feature that lets you run the "Grid" intermittently, or to set the max % of processor taken, then I'll consider reinstalling.
This is why my work computer is set to only run in screen saver mode, so it does't slow down work work. I agree that having your cpu maxed is a bit much for a program that is supposedly working in the background. This means it does most of its work when I am off line and during evenings and weekends (all machines are left on at work).
Also, I let the thing run, intermittently over the last week, approximately 2 hours. Even though my machine rates over "100 points", I haven't returned a single result. Apparently the program doesn't like getting interrupted, and keeps restarting results.
Or it just takes longer than that to complete a module. My laptop has completed 59 in just under 21 days. That's 8.5 hours per result on average. I also notice that some take longer than others.
If you look at the progress meter you will see that it is not starting over.

Re: Pegged Processors
I have one piece of software that I use at work that was "jerky" with this running in the background (the mouse pointer would stick for a second every ten seconds or so) so I usually had to disable this while using it. I have tested this now with the environment variable set at 90% and do not have the problem. I do notice that the CPU usage varies quite a bit around the 90% (and sometimes still pegs at 100%) so I expect this variation while set at 100 would explain the jerky behavior I was experiencing (probably from feedback delay from measuring usage to control the background usage).

700's rank and counting ...

Logically, based on membership numbers we should be able to get down to low 300's on all team ranks evenually, all else being equal.

Re: 700's rank and counting ...
What???
Your analysis was flawed? Now all of evolution is doomed. Haeckel move over.
LOL. Not too surprising given that all teams are in flux and start from different baselines. We may even be overtaken by some new upstart team ...
unless we add new members ...

Re: Tooting my own horn! (think what you will)
What confuses me is why my Athlon 1800 (linux) consistently returns results faster than my Athlon 2500 (windows).
Try maxing the cache disk space allocated in windows (unless you need it) ... it's under your device profile settings, and the default is small. Other than that I would not be surprised that windoze takes up more ram than other OS's.
