well I've been agnostic since i was 12-13 or so and I'm 19 now. I've realized that most religious writings are mostly for moral values. but I'm not one to thank god for something that someone else did. if someone went through years of training and education like a doctor and they save my life I'm not going to get on my knees and go "PRAISE THE LORD ITS A MIRACLE!" if i meet god after i die I'll give thanks where thanks should be given. if there is no god ill accept it..well i dunno how i would accept it if there is no after life but you get the point. i guess I'm not going to set up my self for disappointment. i mean how would you feel if you devoted your entire life to 1 truth and you died and its not the correct one. you would feel pretty bumbed out.

it's an ancient abbreviation for christian. X for cross is chi in greek - christian
Xian (disambiguation) - Wikipedia
Chi (letter) - Wikipedia
quote:
The shorthand version of Jesus Christ in Christianity, as in X-mas etc. Written oaths and other contracts were once made valid by writing on them an for Christ and then kissing it, so the letter chi (and Roman ex) came to stand for both a kiss and a signature.
Interesting eh?
Enjoy.

Xian is short for Christian.
Bit like Xmas and Christmas.

i mean hell they LAUGHED at me and shook their head at me for believing in evolutionism. they showed no respect for what i believed in so why should i give them the satisfaction of converting me. i don't want to be like that. i don't want to look down on someone because they believe in something other than i do. to believe in something is to live and to change someones beliefs is to take the one personal thing that everyone has away and photocopy their beliefs over it.

There shouldn't be any problem believing that the bible is literal. The difficulty comes only when you want it to be both literal and true, and it cannot be both of those.

Let's end the political smears

i live by my own moral code, and i don't need religious writings to guide my ways. like for marriage. i don't believe that it should just be a man and a woman. it should be who you feel comfortable living with for the rest of your live. if i found a guy that i wouldn't mind being a life partner with him. granted no sex would be involved but if that means im going to be happy for the rest of my life i would do it.

If it could be shown that science is completely wrong about the Theory of Evolution, then I would certainly change my mind about it, as would everybody else I know who is science-minded and a critical thinker.

well i'm not saying i don't believe in god I'm saying i don't believe in the bible. theres no way i can say that a god exists or not its impossible. thats why i don't like people who believe without a doubt god exists/doesn't exist. and thats what gets people who are extremists really pissed off at me because i will not make that choice because it isn't mine to make.
I'm an Agnostic, DJ, and I know how difficult it is to explain yourself to believers and unbelievers.
The fact is, you don't have to explain yourself to anybody.
Doubt scares most people.

well the idea would be changed because science does that. if new information proves something about the theory wrong it would change how people believe things. but thats through the scientific method and not just hey this isn't true believe what i say. if something was proven scientifically wrong i would change my mind. i think thats a problem with most of my relatives beliefs. they think science is just something they go hey i found something lets use that as the truth, but in reality it has to go through the many stages of the scientific method.

thats a good philosophy nator heh its harder said then done because everyone always asks why, because they think my idea is insecure and they think they can pull me to their side because i'm in the middle.

DJ, I am assuming that at 19 you are out of the house. Is that right?
This is going to sound banal, but time and distance are on your side.
If you let things settle down (don't poke the bear with a stick), chances are that in 10 years your parents aren't going to be hounding you in the same way.
