Just a query - you have to get a license to run your own business? (over here, as a one man band, you just get up and go).

Ah interesting, this site gives a reasonable breakdown of the main legal entities and structures own to the aspiring businessperson in the UK:

My business is a limited company because it means that I am able to protect my own assets. Many "companies" in the uk are in fact just a one-man band with members of the family listed in the various roles and owning the shares.
