Once again, to vote third party is to elect the one you don't want. Heh, apparently you forgot about the Body! The saddest thing about Ventura's administration, to me, is that he ran away completely after his term was up. He could have made a long term, lasting impact on Minnesota politics by going out and supporting third party candidates and creating a viable party. If memory serves, Tim Penny ran at the end of Ventura's term as an Independant. Penny had a good shot at it on his own merits, until Wellstone died. I really think that kind of shook everyone up to the point where they all went back to their "safe places," less likely to take a chance on a third party. But I still think that if Ventura had put his powerful persona to work throughout the state, Minnesota might well have a three party political landscape right now. Beg pardon if this is all horribly OT. Those who would sacrifice an essential liberty for a temporary security will lose both, and deserve neither. -- Benjamin Franklin

As far as I knew, only Alaska and Tennessee had no state income tax. Your state makes three.
(quick note:for now, Alaska actually pays you to be a resident there--at least, they did while I lived there, from 88-92) Want to help give back to the world community? I just saw the news:
Allen and Burns have graciously conceded. Pretty decent of them; if I was in an election that was that close, I think I would have called for a recount just to make sure. Kings were put to death long before 21 January 1793. But regicides of earlier times and their followers were interested in attacking the person, not the principle, of the king. They wanted another king, and that was all. It never occurred to them that the throne could remain empty forever. -- Albert Camus

It looks like 59.6% of the eligible voters decided to sit this one out.
Whatever their margin of victory, it appears that the Democrats do not represent a majority of Americans. Kings were put to death long before 21 January 1793. Perhaps. In the former Soviet Union, everyone had to vote and the Communists won every election.
If we had democratic elections that encouraged a variety of different platforms, encouraged people to vote according to their beliefs, and produced a government that represented the majority opinion, then I bet that the winner would be a European style social democratic coalition. And that would be even if people didn't have to vote. *Sigh* But we don't have the luxury of living in the world we would like. We are forced to live in the world as it is. Kings were put to death long before 21 January 1793. But regicides of earlier times and their followers were interested in attacking the person, not the principle, of the king. *Sigh* But we don't have the luxury of living in the world we would like. We are forced to live in the world as it is. Or try to change the world a small bit at a time. Example. How about an automatic tax credit for voters? Aslan is not a Tame Lion

hey, the opposite of the poll tax. the no-tax poll. or the un-poll tax. or . . .or . . .or . . .
but then you're taxing those who don't vote. it's discrimination against those who just don't give shit or like any of the choices! (all in serious joking, but there would probably be someone who would use this defense, somewhere . . .) Want to help give back to the world community? Did you know that your computer can help? Can we talk here about the suitability of Robert Gates, or will it spoil the celebrations?
