quote: BBC - Radio 4 - Today Programme Listen Again (Scroll down to 0750 to listen to a radio interview about this situation) Should a bank or other private organization refuse service on the basic of religious viewpoints? My own viewpoint - while I agree with the stance of the Co-Op, I am slightly worried that people's right to free speech should be the basic of discrimination. Should a bank or other private organization refuse service on the basic of religious viewpoints? Offhand, I think a brief opinion from you might be nice. Also, do you have a forum suggestion? Even though it does have religious considerations, it seems "Coffee House" material to me. Adminnemooseus

I was thinking Coffee shop as well. I'll edit a response in post 1.

They say in their explanation of their closing of the Christian account that they are open to "all sectors of society" --- EXCEPT the Christian sector. Funny how that goes.
I'm for anybody denying business to anybody for any reason myself. Christians may have to start their own banks.

I'm for anybody denying business to anybody for any reason myself. Christians may have to start their own banks. You are clearly wrong when you state it is a because they are Christians. The stated reason was NOT because they are Christian and many Christian groups would pass the criteria this bank has put forward. The reason was because they are bigots. Whether a bank should reject customers based on this is something that I am of two minds about. I think I will watch the discussion unfold a bit and see if anything is posted that will help me make up my mind. Certainly, if the bank was espousing that kind of hate-based thinking I would not be a customer of it. I'm not sure that I want the selection of customers dealt with based on that kind of thing though. It seems to be to be fraught with peril.

BIBLE-believing God-fearing Christians. I don't recognize any other kind of course, but since you do, go ahead and take the name as well as our bank accounts. Steal it all. That's the way the world is going.
I certainly think the bank is unjust. What people believe is nobody's business. But I don't care. I'm a conservative and I'm not for government interference in such matters.

Ned (and anyone else) - it's really worth listening to the radio interview.

That's the way the world is going. Funny; I'm no biblical expert but I was pretty sure that the message of the Christ was one of love and tolerance. It would seem that the bank understands the message of the bible more than these so-called Christians. Listening to the interview (thanks CK) convinces me that the bank did the right thing.

Fascinating radio interview. Just fascinating. I'm foursquare behind Steven Green, but I also see the handwriting on the wall. Persecution of Christians is coming in spades, just as bad as it ever was in the days of the Caesars, and God's judgment is following hard on its heels for exactly the reasons Steve Green gives. I wonder if any eyes will be opened in all this or if the blindness is just going to get worse.

Only those "Christians" who wish to promulgate persecution themselves. I'll resist persecution of others who do no harm.

The idea of "love and tolerance" that you have is not Christ's love and tolerance. He died for our sins, He never condoned them -- they cost Him His life for our sake. Love and tolerance in a society may certainly mean efforts to keep the society in obedience to the Law of God for exactly the reason Steve Green says - God's wrath will come upon that nation for its abandonment of Him, and this revisionist definition of His love and tolerance is one of the greatest offenses, putting good for evil and evil for good (Isaiah 5:20).
So sad to hear Green refer to the former Christian identity of England, its dependence on the God of Christianity in the world wars -- not that long ago but what an eternity ago ideologically -- and his fear for his nation's now coming under God's judgment. America is certainly ripe for God's judgment for exactly the same violations of God's Law. I think the WTC blow was just a warning, but nobody's heeding it so something worse will no doubt eventually follow.

What makes you think they are not open to Christians? It looks like all they've done is ask bigots to leave.

Only true Bible-believing God-fearing Christians will be persecuted of course, exactly what I meant. For "persecuting" people by calling sin sin. Terrible persecution we do! Warn people about God's wrath so that they might try to save themselves. How evil we are.
It is this sector alone that is now the fair target of discrimination and intolerance. Every other is quite welcome. No reason to persecute the "Christians" who have sold out to the world's agenda against God's Law. The injustice is patent, but we knew it was coming some day. I think it's now at the door.

Ned beat you to it. It would help to read the whole thread before responding don't you think? Yes "bigots" are now fair game. All the terminology has been gathered for justification of the lynching. String us up as Nero did and set a match to us to light your garden path.
