Well it is my first try at this, and some bugs have to be worked out.
Most likely I will have to upgrade the equipment. The camera wasn't even mine, but all the other hardware is.
I have an ameture radio license, so I can legally get better equipment, and you can expect some better quality videos soon.
It was a tuff flight, as I had to land and take-off on a dime. But there are some cool parts to the flight.

That's pretty cool. Would enjoy seeing what's next.
There is two ways of recording flight. In this case I used a wireless secruity camera (2.4ghz) to send a signal back to a usb capture device, then to my laptop, where I can watch and record the video.
The picture was not good enough to fly by. Other people use video glasses to fly their plane. The camera I was using really doesn't have good range, and I also should have had someone helping me, so they could tune the reception as I fly, and maybe change the angle of the reciever antenna.
But it wasn't my stuff, and it is going back. I will be getting better equipment, that works on the 900mhz band, nad be building a plane specifically for carrying the equipment.
The other way of doing video is to carry a video camera on board. I just purchased a cvs one time use camera, which is cheap and lite, and there are ways of getting the video out of them. I will be removing all the casing, and then mounting it to the plane, and I should have clear 640x480 30fps video when I am done.
I will continue to post them here as I go along.

It has a bit of a trippy 60's music video feel to it from the colour and the black sun is wonderfully ominous.

That's really cool riVeRraT.
I like the black spot in the sun, and the sun reflecting off the water was a trip (I think the poor camera quality helped there).
Maybe you could post some photos of how you mod the plane and mount the camera, n-stuff.
I'll be watching the next one for sure.

The plane
WEll I dont have pictures of the plane with the camera, I already dismantled it, and I am aquiring some better equipment.
But the plane was half home built. I made the wongs from blue-cor house insulation, here is a link to a partial build thread.
Blue slow stick? - RC Groups
Here is the equipment for video, that I was using, along with a pinnacle usb movie boax, and a laptop:
camera
Here is a link to the latest plane I built. The motor draws almost 55 amps. It is pretty cutting edge as far as radio control plane technology goes, I aquired it second hand, but new. But if it was new, there is over $1,000 invested in the plane.
NEsail Diablo 3D build thread - RC Groups
Here is a link to a guy who has a lot of experience doing airborne video, and I will getting the same stuff he is using, learning from his mistakes:
http://www.rcdon.com
Excellent videos there.
I am also experimenting with a cheap CVS one time use camera, that I will be stripping down for weight savings, and hacking into to extract the videos. I am waiting for the usb cable to downlod the videos. It is a popular setup, and the cheapest way to get quality videos, but you cannot view then real time, obviously.

Re: cool

The setup you saw fly was about $450 total.
i have a $50 dollar airhogs remote control air plane but i could never get it to work right.
They are extremely difficult to fly, and do nothing more than deter people from getting into the hobby.
oh yeah and how far away from the remote control can u fly it?
1/2 mile the manufacture says, but you can get 1mile line of sight usually. When you start going that far, you should be having autopilot to take over, should the communications start glitching.
and do u have a screen that u can look at what the cameras viewing while ur still flying it or does it record it and u watch it afterwards?
I can watch it live, and ultimately I want to get video glasses that give me the perspective of flying, like a full size plane.
anyways there a new pc game i saw on a commericial its about being a piolet it looks like fun if u like that stuff.
peace
If you want to learn how to fly, there are sevral quality simulators out there, like G3 or areofly professional. They give you a controller just like the model controller, and if you can fly the simulator, you will most likely be successful in real life. I highly recommend it, and I use one all the time, to teach myself more advanced manuvers.
An excellent starting plane for you, which I just bought for my son is:detract-online.de - This website is for sale! - detract Resources and Information.
That plane can do just about anything, and is an excellent platform for airborne video.
Anything else you need to know about it, you can learn here:
Aerial Photography and Video - RCU Forums
Feel free to ask me for any advice. I sponser a building group in my shop, and we build and fly planes together all year long.

Latest
My latest effort, and third try.
I am using a CVS one time use camera, that I hacked into (legally) and can now d/l the movies. I removed the casing to make it as light as possible.
I am having glitching problems, and some waves. But I have possible solutions, with some shielding, and a separate source of power for the cam.
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1
Enjoy!
