Re: 4 hours left . . .
I started playing on that site a few months ago, so you can tell I don't cheat because my rating there is both consistent and mediocre!!
My name on there is eratic, which would've been a good name for a chess player if I'd noticed the typo before I clicked the submit button!!! I'm in if you want me, but only unrated games.

Re: 4 hours left . . .
Fine! A suggestion for the tournament might be that we can all play several games at once. Because it's 3 day chess, it would take ages for all participants to have played each other if we just play one game at a time, and if you go into the site, why not make several moves on different games at the same time?

Re: Tourney Closed . . .
It's only an odd number because you've left me out! (Posts 42 and 44 above). Count me in, and it's an even league of twelve. I'll search you out on Gameknot for a warm up game and a chat.

There may be a real "erratic" on that site, as it's a very big site and a likely choice of name. Could you change "erratic" to eratic on your two posts above, as some other person might start getting strange messages about a mysterious EvC tournament!

Re: Tournament Challenge Order
+ Nyeusigrube
+ Eratic
The TOP person listed in each match-up will send a challenge request to the other member. Three days for accepting the challenge, and three days per move. The person sending the challenge will play as white. The games will be unrated, and public.
Nyeusigrube, where are you!!
Jon, Nye has yet to challenge me, so I've challenged him, with him playing white. I think all other games have already started, and one has been completed, so we may end up holding things up.
If any other tournament players want a practice in the meantime, feel free to challenge. I'm eratic (with one "r") on GameKnot.

Re: Tournament Challenge Order
Sorry, Nye.
I should've been able to tell by the picture! An interesting thing that both Evolution/Creation debate sites and chess sites have in common is that around 80 to 90% of the participants are male.
Why that is would make a very interesting topic on this site.

Re: Are we still playing?
I'm playing my first round game with Nye, and three practice games with other EvC tournament players. It's just that the games take a long time, nemesis, so there's nothing really to report 'til they're finished (I think one is - see further up thread).

Best way to refresh your memory is to wind the board back a few moves.

Re: darn this is fun!
Oh.. this is exciting, I'm in the next round. So what happens next... will the winner of Jon/Kuresu challenge me? I'd better check out the opposition...
Obviously, there are people raring to go, and as a player in one of the remaining games, I feel we're holding things up.
Nye's only moving about once every 24 hours on average, which is fine, but at that rate, if the game turns out to be a 40+ move one, you're all going to have to wait another 20 days.
I looked into the other unfinished game, and that looks just about finished, so I was wondering if you all wanted to go ahead without us, excepting, obviously, whoever it is who's due to play the winner of our game.
I've never played in a chess tournament before, so I'm not really sure what we're doing. Is it a straight knock-out tournament. Or does everyone end up playing everyone else. Seems a bit harsh on the first six losers if they're straight out for just dropping one game.
(No self-interest there, I'm winning at the moment!).

bluegenes can go ahead and set things up...
Why me? As I said above, I've never played in a chess tournament, and I've no idea what we're doing! Plus I'm still playing the first round.
Maybe Jon's confusing me with Truthlover, who volunteered to organize something a few posts above. If he'd like to do that, I, for one, would be happy to go along with any arrangements he sees fit to make, and would thank him for his efforts!
Everyone agreed?
P.S. Nye, if you're around, it says 16 hrs left on the clock, and on Gamenot's system, there's no way I can revive the game if you time out.

That's fine, and understandable! If you're in touch somehow, if her Email's working, could you ask her to challenge me when the problem's are solved? (if the first game has timed out). I'm in no hurry, but the reason I posted at the top of this page, about other people moving on, is that a couple of people had said they were enjoying the tournament, and were clearly raring to go. It's an inevitable problem that some of the games will take much longer than others, and give Nye my sympathy!

hey bluegenes.
you're in luck. nyeusigrube's computer is working again. go ahead and challenge her for a re-match (like we had said earlier)...
I appreciate your help, kuresu, but I don't see that I'm in luck, and I would've thought that it's up to Nye to challenge me! I don't know who's due to play us after the second round, but I think some second round games are finished, and Nye's turned up just in time to hold up whoever's supposed to play us in the third round, so history's repeating itself.
I think we'll have to have a rule in the future that a timeout is a timeout, whether it's due to a three week computer breakdown, or joining the coastguard, or whatever.

Re: finally
Tusko, I've never read the Gameknot rules in detail, but I doubt if you have to pay to be reinstated. It's probably because you timed out on a game or two in your first ten or fifteen games. Look on your public page, and it will say "timeouts" and give the percentage of your games that you've timed out on. I suspect that there may be a point, like 10%, that automatically limits your privileges on the site for a while. Try using the "Join Game" and "Start Game" facilities, then the more games you complete, the lower your "timeout" percentage will become (to state the obvious!) and I think that things may get back to normal.
There's a certain logic to it all, as they need to discourage people from starting lots of games, then not completing them. That's also presumably why the number of free games you can play increases every four wins.

Re: Admit defeat
Tusko, I think that something must've gone wrong with your Email connection with Gameknot. Try using another Email address (changing it on your Gameknot page) if you've got another. It may be that you've got some kind of spam filter that's knocking the GKnot emails out.
