Quick and probably ill informed question, but wouldn't global warming and melting of ice caps bring about an ice age? Salinity changes and subsequent changes to the ocean currents?

You're refusing to admit the fact that in the past century and a half from 1860, global warming has been on the steady rise which appears to me to be significant for such a short period.
I don't see a steady rise. I see a slight period of cooling between 1930 and 1980 (or so.) And, indeed, it's correlated to some extent with solar output.
But are we looking at the same graph? Or is just that you don't know how to read one? If you're of the opinion that the recent warming trend isn't a significant departure from past temperature cycles, you're poorly informed. Here's another graph that makes it clearer:
from Information Sheet 1 redirection
The anomalous warming is all happening in the past few decades, while the solar input has been stable or even decreasing. While insolation fluctuations may have been responsible for cooling in the past, that's clearly not what's going on now. Because the sun's output is decreasing. Not increasing.
Other than that, I don't know what you're trying to say. How can the sun be driving climate change if the sun's output hasn't changed over the same period?

I was watching a special, and they say some scientists think that the way we are going, will actually cause the ocean currents to shut down, and that will then cause the ice age.
But I have another question for anyone who might now, or for anyone who has observed the same thing.
I have noticed that the trees, do not seem as healthy as they once were, and many limbs have been falling all over the place. Even limbs that appear to be healthy.
Can you imagine if we lost all the trees at on time? They could all go into shock from the rapid change of climate. Then there would be less oxygen and an increase of CO2, making the greenhouse effect even worse, with no air to breath to boot.

TEXAS: Proof enough
Hello Tazzy
I have never denied global warming in my life: being born-born again-and-raised in Texas is good enough to convince me. I'm surprised that native Texans like Pres Bush could deny Global warming, when we have it right in the state!
I think that either we are fully or partially resposible for Global warming. I wonder if Global dimming will mess with it a bit....
BTW: I happen to own "an inconveinient Truth" the Documentary by ex vice Al Gore. Has any here seen it too?

I did. When I went in, I was thinking "I already believe anthropogenic global warming is probably real, but I think there's a lot of dispute among scientists about the extent to which it's indicated by the data."
When I came out, I was thinking "Man, I've really been sold a bill of goods by the media and the climate change deniers. There's no scientific doubt whatsoever."

Re: TEXAS: Proof enough
It is a pretty good documentary. There is a quick look at Reagan, Bush sr, and senator inhofe from Oklahoma bashing Global warming on it, the latter even calling it a "hoax" (Give him some time in Texas, and no funding from the oil lobby, and see what he says then). I've actually encountered professors at my College who are otherwise very smart, actually deny Global warming totally (none in the science department however.)
Now of course the most frightening part of the documentary is not the poor drowning Polar Bears ( ) or the drunken trees (Burp) but the revelation that Al Gore has a sense of Humor! He must have added an emotion chip to his mainframe! AI LIVES!!!!!
ok, i'll get back to serious.
Bill Moyers (hope I spelt that right) did a show where it discussed many evangelicals who are now believing in the reality of global warming and even preaching against peoeple's excesses in demolishing this planet, which was very facinating. Even then these guys get targeted by naysayers and even other megachurch and religious leaders (Pat robertson, James Kennedy, etc). But they still press on
