SCUBA dives, recently acquired the disturbing habit of deliberately placing himself in the path of landfalling hurricanes. Looking forward to the university's Great Plains Tornado Chase of 2003.

I've not been, but last year in the Great Plains they spent two weeks of constant driving and saw two. That was a very successful year. One makes the trip a success, and not every year is a success. I've also read an experienced storm chaser's webpage (not affiliated with the university) who once said that the chances of seeing of a tornado on a particular chase is about 1/9. Sounds about right.
