Author | Topic: So who are you? What do you do? What are your interests? | |||||||||||||||||||||||

I find quite often on here i forget that I am talking to actual people that have jobs, lives, families and interests. It somehow starts to seem like I am debating against a great machine and i do not know how to communicate with a machine. I thought that if we had some knowledge of each other of what our interests are our hobbies our jobs ect. that we may be able to find better ways of explaining ourselves to each other. Being able to use examples of things that are farmiliar to us makes things much easier and avoids confusion. One thing I think was brilliant about Jesus was this ability to use a story/parable to describe a concept. Sometimes this method of communication is actually much clearer than a direct statement.
I am a newly wed man who loves the Lord Jesus and his wife very much. I am an avid musician playing just about any instrument I can get my hands on, (though mostly a guitarist) with a general interst in just about any art form. I also have a love of athletics, I love sports, mainly Hockey, basketball, and football (not soccer, though i do like soccer). I am quite thankful for the gifts that God has given me in these areas as they are a constant joy in my life. Through reading on this site I have also developed a very keen interest in geology, this subject facsinates me though i know little about it compared to most on this site. I absolutely love to learn this is something my mother has instilled in me and i enoy research and study on just about any topic. I love to joke around. Alot of times some things i say are taken much more seriously than i meant them. I tend to like to show contrasts alot and will use extreme examples from both sides to show a difference, so my examples get critisized alot. Trying to use more smily faces to show this. This is all I can think of for now, I will add more later as it comes to me.

Also young, male and maried, I never pick up musical instruments out of respect for others ears, suposedly I sing rather well but this is usually in bars after rugby matches so I`m not sure how much credence to attach to those reports....
Played rugby for my university (first team natch) and 2 years running we got through to the last 16 in the BUSA so I can`t have been that bad..... Got a degree in physics and space science, a small vicious poodle called Biscuit and a mortgage yay big *spreads hands apart*.... Would have liked to have been a police officer but over here a)you have to be a citizen, and b)everyone seems to have a gun so that put the kibosh on that plan..... Spend my free time here and there on the net, bemoaning the fact that I can`t find a Judo club in vermont and that the only decent sport to watch over here is ice hockey.... Oh and I dislike soccer.... Apart from when the spurs win.....

OK
busted Me and funki are married!!! Oct 12 this year (please be gentle)lol I am a freakout artist/musician with an avid interest in geology/volcanism,and philosophyI have invented a time machine that will send me and funk back 2000 years to gather proof to bring back of christ's existence, so see you guys in a couple weeks(unfortunately the delay/return sequence is longer than i had originally anticipated) we also plan on stopping by noah's tent for a couple days to discuss some matters with him hehe i am currently working on the blueprints/schematics for a tectonic movement-generated musical instrument(large scale)involving several gongs/drum and string instruments. Its a neat/ambitious idea and very complicated for my overeager creative mind, and am having trouble with predicting the effects the vibrations would have on the materials i want to use....(the plans for it so far 'somewhat' resemble japanese movement-resistant architecture) ------------------*******sleeper******** [This message has been edited by graedek, 11-27-2002] [This message has been edited by graedek, 11-27-2002]

Male, single, Muslim. currently a Biology undergrad student at the Univ. of Indonesia (UI), working on final thesis on the termites of Depok (location of UI's campus). I also have a part-time job of doing Indonesian translations of popular science books (biology only) for a major local publisher. Currently applying for the position of lecturer in taxonomy in UI. After I finish my undergrad I plan to pursue a MSc abroad. Maybe at the London Natural History Museum? They offer a Masters in Advanced Taxonomy & Biodiversity degree there. Called a 'paleoanthropologist' by Muslim creationist Harun Yahya but actually I am just a scientist apprentice now. I keep a weblog at Traduo/Translation/bersetzung .

love the quotes on your link, they deserve a relay....
"A mind all logic is like a knife all blade. It makes the hand bleed that uses it."-- Rabindranath Tagore "Faith is an oasis in the heart which can never be reached by the caravan of thinking."- Kahlil Gibran "The highest happiness of man ... is to have probed what is knowable and quietly to revere what is unknowable."- Goethe "Anyone who dares to waste one hour of life has not yet discovered the value of life."- Charles Darwin "Destiny is not a matter of chance; but a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for. It is a thing to be achieved."- William Jennings Bryan ------------------*******sleeper********

Greetings and salutations ... thanx for this topic funkie. I too, have had to keep reminding myself that these are persons on the other end.
I am a homemaker, married to the same guy for 25 years (he's a very patient man) I brag that in that many years of marriage we've never once had a fight ... and then have to admit its not because of my lack of trying! :-) Eaten too many humble pies ... learning not to try anymore. We have six (yup 6) children and several more what we like to call "children of our heart". I am happiest when my house is full of young peoples. Two of our children are all growed up and are living on their own. We homeschool the other four ... from Grade 12 to Kindergarten. I love to learn ... doesn't really matter the subject. I just love learning. Enjoy all sorts of crafts, watching and playing sports (my favorite? ummmmm football - CFL!, watching action movies, and the list goes on. Been walking with the Lord now for 19 years.

I'm an adopted Yorkshireman, living in Sheffield (that's about dead centre of England* then up about 30 miles).
I'm a computer engineer, no kids yet, I play the guitar and keyboard instruments, sing in classical choirs and the Dore Gilbert and Sullivan society, and my interests outside music are science, aquaria and role-playing games. And failing to update my websites:
No webpage found at provided URL: http://freespace.virgin.net/karl_and.gnome and No webpage found at provided URL: http://pathwanderer.5u.com (links working now. Thanks to Admin ) The rest you can guess. *England that is. If by "England" you have an image that includes Scotland and Wales (which are no more England than Florida is part of Texas), then aim for a point about two-fifths up. I live in England too - in Oxford. I was born here in 1971, and haven't moved out of the area apart from a few years in Wales.
I work as a graphic designer in the healthcare marketing industry. I've done this for about 5 years and would like to move on to another industry in the near future. I have a girlfriend who's currently doing a phd in biochemistry at Bath University (about 60 miles west of Oxford). No kids, and no marriage plans imminent. My interests are: film making, music making, videogames and videogame design, discussion and going to pubs with my friends.

Why not? Male, married 32 years, four kids, expecting first grandchild this afternoon or next week or so. Chemist, PhD Ohio State, working as the technical department for a small oilfield chemical business. Interests are astronomy, arguing evo/cre on the internet, geology. Politically left-wing but very apathetic - will get remotivated if they try to insert ID/Creationism in our public school.
Nice to meet you, folks.

Male, Mormon, geology undergrad. Future astronaut candidate.
SCUBA dives, recently acquired the disturbing habit of deliberately placing himself in the path of landfalling hurricanes. Looking forward to the university's Great Plains Tornado Chase of 2003. [This message has been edited by gene90, 11-29-2002]

How do those tornado chases work Gene? How often do they get 'lucky'?

I've not been, but last year in the Great Plains they spent two weeks of constant driving and saw two. That was a very successful year. One makes the trip a success, and not every year is a success. I've also read an experienced storm chaser's webpage (not affiliated with the university) who once said that the chances of seeing of a tornado on a particular chase is about 1/9. Sounds about right.

I'm a bit of a torndao fanatic for some reason even though they're very rare here (Australia). My first memories include being carried across a UoMichigan football field to a basement just before a (tornado) touchdown and my father driving in between two spouts across a bridge.
