Sorry, just concentrating on one particular statement (too late and too much tequila tonight to do otherwise):
to trying to make Joe Biden's word mishap ("Pakistan has deployed nuclear weapons Do you have any concept of what "deploying" means? That means to field the weapon/unit ready to engage. Whether you actually engage or not. Do you understand that? You deploy, but that does not mean that you actually engage. Do you understand that? So, Pakistan had deployed nukes. Does that mean that they had actually nuked anyone (ie, "engaged the enemy")? No! Deploying a weapon system does not automatically mean that they had actually used that weapon system.

Joe Biden's word mishap ("Pakistan has deployed nuclear weapons"... Okay, which country have they nuked? India? Is testing nukes near a nation, targeting a nation with nukes without firing, having severe tensions with another nation, the exact same thing as nuking them? Has Mumbai been hit? How are those Tigers and Asian Elephants there holding up to the fallout? Err, Ludo, you're not thinking of running for president are you? The idea that the guy on the button doesn't know the meaning of the word 'deploy' scares the f'ck out of me Why do Republicans insist on making themselves such easy targets for ridicule?

I knew that lefties would pounce on Palin, and Evc, as shown in the replies on this thread, are no different. to trying to make Joe Biden's word mishap ("Pakistan has deployed nuclear weapons"... Biden did NOT say Pakistan nuked somebody, as pointed out by Nosyned and a bit by myself, he said "deployed" which DOES NOT mean "fired", but "ready to fire at any minute". Palin on the other hand, well, let's just say she gave me the immpression of not being the brightest one there is. That's it for now I hunt for the truth

Republicans didn't go out to vote in full strength, and media conservatives continued to attack and disclaim McCain, because they didn't like him, and the latter phenomena had effect on the former. He wasn't a Bush JR. Unlike McCain, Palin was picked because she was ultra-conservative, charming, cute (to me she's hot)and had charisma. But she was also targeted by righters; several people in my own Church (mostly Republicans) didn't like her, one of them (at least) because she was (get this!) PENTECOSTAL! That would no doubt be echoed in other Churches (Southern Bapist, and the like) nationwide. That has got to be the stupidist reason not to vote. I have often said that in voting one picks the "lessor of 2 evils." No candidate agrees with me on everything. My vote is for the person who agrees more. As for the religious beliefs of a candidate, who cares as long as they keep their beliefs in the church. Idon't care if a candidate is Penticostal, Mormon, Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, deist, agnostic, atheist or anything else as long as he uses the good judgement toward an idea and not be pro or con solely on religious beliefs. There is no better love between 2 people than mutual respect for each other WT Young, 2002 Who gave anyone the authority to call me an authority on anything. WT Young, 1969

Why do Republicans insist on making themselves such easy targets for ridicule I don't think they insist, I think it's inevitable...

You dont want somebody in office whose republican AND cares about the planet, even mildly!!! The ghost of Ronald Reagan forbid!!!!!!! And that is why Republicans will be a minority party for the next several generations. That is of course unless they move to the center. If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be. --Thomas Jefferson

Does anyone have a link to where, or a quote of how, Palin didn't know the countries in NAFTA and thought that Africa was one country?

Does anyone have a link to where, or a quote of how, Palin didn't know the countries in NAFTA and thought that Africa was one country? That is going to be hard to come by since it seems these new things are all alleged leaks from McCain staffers. There is a possibility that they are trying to assign blame elsewhere but this seems like an odd way to go about it so I would give some credence to this. (it isn't inconsistent with what I've seen of her)

I wish one could do that. However, some ideas are so dumb that holding them betrays a lack of intelligence, or at least an alarmingly tenuous grasp of reality. Perhaps it might depend on the office sought. It would be seriously weird to have a YEC in charge of a nation's science programs, for example, but a dog catcher could have any number of crazy notions and still do a good job. That is why important things need to be checked over and over. Or is that only for things that you don't want to be true The opposite: if it is important that it be true you'd better check that it is doubly.

It seems, otherwise, that people double check the things that they do not want to be true (Biden's quote) and just accept as true the things they do want to be (Palin's quote).

Thanks for digging those up.
Without the quotes in proper context, its hard to decide whether or not I believe that she siad those things. From these, we can't really know just how stupid she is. While we're on the subjects of gaffes though, this is from the bottom of your first link:
