This link provides the story, which broke recently.

I keep trying to tell Jar that not all of the C.C.O.I are crooks, but I get pie in my face time and time again! :o

How many universities even have a private jet?

Anybody who donates to them must be in the Christian Cult of Idiots.

There's a 13-page pdf of the actual complaint here:
http://kotv.com/files/0710/oru.pdf

It's interesting that the plaintiffs are only asking for $10,000. That might be strategy, but it's refreshing.....

They are asking for damages in excess of $10,000, both actual and punitive.

Oh. My eyes always glaze over before I get to the end of legal documents. I should read them backwards, I suppose.

Why anyone would want to attend one of these christian colleges is beyond my comprehension.

Disclaimer:

Occasionally, owing to the deficiency of the English language, I have used he/him/his meaning he or she/him or her/his or her in order to avoid awkwardness of style.

He, him, and his are not intended as exclusively masculine pronouns. They may refer to either sex or to both sexes!

Penticostal Factor
I've always considered him as a hoax and huxter, out primarily for $$ and deception. I've consitently warned other Christians of this as well.

The Penticostal and the Roman Catholic segment of Christianity have been quite prominent in scandalous conduct. Jimmy Jones, Jimmie Swaggart, Jimmie Bakker and now Oral Roberts are some of the Penticostals that come to mind. The bloody inquisitions of the Dark Ages and the recent homosexual scandals by priests come to mind relative to RCs. I find it necessary often to distiguish the RC from mainline Protestantism when it comes to violence related debates.

I've always questioned the term "holiness" which is often a word used in connection with the Penticostal movement. Imo it's largely due to an underlying doctrinal problem. The movement has this notion that you get this so called 2nd blessing, i.e. Baptism of Holy Spirit evidenced by speaking in unknown tongues etc. So many figure after the allegedly get this, they've arrived and forget maintaining good works and Biblical principles.

I make this point because the more conservative denominations of the Christian community get lumped in with the Penticostal and R Catholic variety when it comes to the scandals.

This is not to say that the more conservative organizations and denominations don't have their share of scandal and doctrinal problems. I'm just wanting the folks here to know that we who do not practice scandalous activity should not be lumped in with these organizations and that we abhor their conduct.

This is also not to say that there are not good penticostal pastors, leaders, churches and organizations. I know of many that are devout and genuine brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. Some good and devout ones may be or have been members of EvC as well.

Don't worry too much about it, my eyes glazed over, too. :)

I got the distinct impression that the attorney who wrote this dictated the mess into a recorder then was too lazy to edit it afterward. It's very poorly written with run-on sentences, multiple uses of passive language, paragraphs too long and a great deal of surplusage. Also, if you notice, it says at the bottom of page two that Booker was hired in August 2007, only two months ago. This is inconsistent with the rest of the factual statement, and obviously a mistake.

If this is representative of the work that this attorney does, I wouldn't be worried to go up against him.

Re: Pentacostal Factor
you really didn't say anything, did you?

so these "other" groups are bad, but they might not be bad at all? just enough suspicion raised to try to make people look away from you without making you look bad in your own eyes.

i couldn't resist adding this to the list, apologies for the slightly off-topic nature.

almost $200 million dollars?

I saw this on the banner of the NBC headquarters while in New York for a weekend, laughed myself silly.

Re: Penticostal Factor
Let us for a moment forget about the allegations, lawsuits, and whatnot.

quote:

Sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests has cost the U.S. church at least $2.3 billion since 1950. Some of the largest known payouts to victims since the crisis erupted in 2002 include:

_ Archdiocese of Los Angeles, 2007, agrees to pay $660 million to about 500 people.

_ Diocese of San Diego, 2007, agrees to pay $198 million to 144 people.

_ Diocese of Orange, Calif., 2004, $100 million for 90 abuse claims.

_ Diocese of Covington, Ky., 2006, up to $84 million for more than 350 people.

_ Archdiocese of Boston, 2003, $84 million for 552 claims.

_ Diocese of Oakland, Calif., 2005, $56 million to 56 people.

_ Archdiocese of Portland, Ore., 2007, agrees to pay about $52 million to 175 victims to emerge from bankruptcy protection; sets aside another $20 million for any future claims.

_ Diocese of Spokane, Wash., 2007, agrees to pay $48 million for about 150 claims to emerge from bankruptcy protection.

_ Diocese of Sacramento, Calif., 2005, pays $35 million to 33 people.

_ Archdiocese of Louisville, Ky., 2003, $25.7 million to 243 victims.

_ Diocese of Tucson, Ariz., 2005, agrees to fund a settlement trust worth about $22 million for more than 50 victims to emerge from bankruptcy protection.

All of these are really large sums of money that the church possess, considering how many people in this world literally starve day after day after day. The fact that the church could pay such large sums of money at all tells me this church ain't the "poor in spirit" type of church that Christ taught.

Am I missing something here? Wouldn't the money be better spent on, you know, the ones who really do need it? You know, those literally hundreds of millions of people that live in unrelenting poverty?

Somehow, I don't think the church is the best example we have of of leading by example.

By the way, that's a lot of horny priests.

Lessee, 500+144+90+350+552+56+176(and counting)+150+33+243+50 = 2343. With more to come.

What`s that verse about 'know them by their fruits'?

Wonder how much the Watchtower Society is up for with an alleged 25,000 victims?

ABE-Funny how the RC church fell back on using a worldly device like Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection instead of relying on the Almighty. :-)
