At office, mozilla 1.7 (on solaris 10)
At home, I think it is mozilla 1.4 (and it is on solaris 8)

Solaris? Even at home?Well, you're not alone. I believe Jar uses Solaris. He's used the chat room a bit, perhaps he can comment.

I've only used the chat room under solaris a few times. But I am willing to try a variety of browsers and OS if you want.Here'swhat I have available:windows XP pro:

Solaris 10: just Mozilla right now but can download any you want tried.

It might be a timing problem.My habit has been to click on the clock face as soon as that appears, so that chat lines are time-stamped. Today I tried waiting till the cursor shows up on the send line, before I click on the clock. So far that has been fine.

Chat Barfs with Opera but works with all the others (except Netscape 8 which I have not yet tried).In Opera the fact that you're logged in does not get passed to the java script.This message has been edited by jar, 10-10-2005 03:05 PM

You guys are over my head! I always just use one browser. Am I hopelessly computer illiterate?It works for me. I can chat on one window and check the board on another window.

Of course not! As long as you keep trying new things so that 80% of the time you don't know what you're doing, then you're on the vanguard with the rest of us! If much of the time you find you only know what you're doing in retrospect, then you're doing fine!

AOL and ChatI have the latest word on using EvC Forum chat with AOL: don't!It won't work.Instead use Internet Explorer.Who's Chatting NowSome have noticed that the "Chatting Now" line in the summary box that appears at the top of each page has been empty since sometime yesterday. The problem has been traced to a server at SigmaChat. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

The problem lies at the chat room end. Here are some excerpts from email I received from the support team at SigmaChat: Popular? Us? Gee, thanks!Looking at the site statistics for EvC Forum, it would appear that we request Who's Chatting Now information about 20,000 times a day. This doesn't seem excessive to me, but I can install some software that archives the result of the Who's Chatting Now query and doesn't make the request any more frequently than once per minute, which would be a maximum of 1440 times per day.I'll do this at my next available opportunity, possibly this weekend. It'll take longer after the fix for the Chatting Now list to begin working again as I have to notify SigmaChat, and they have to manually turn it back on again.

Just a general reminder to EVERYONE that even though it shows no one in chat, we are open for business and there is almost always someone there to talk to.

I just received this email from RaiderSoft, which provides the software and servers for our chatroom. The email's intended audience is webmasters, but I include it here anyway as I don't have time to digest it and boil it down to member-relevant information right now. Anticipated Downtime

1. Empty your browser's cache, then shutdown all open browsers before testing the update.

3. Log in to the new account control panel from Forbidden to view new settings, and verify
that all of the settings are to your liking.

Information for Current Beta Testers

Current Beta testers will lose their v8.0-Beta settings during the final update. The chat room link code (including Who's Chatting system, and user registration links) used in Beta testing will no longer be available after the final release of version 8.0. To ensure a smooth transition, please revert back to your old (v7.4) link code shortly before the final update.

Its here, and we have been experimenting with it this morning.If anyone has trouble getting in, clear all of your old cookies and try again....it took me ten-fifteen seconds for it to load

Yo Big P! Chat isn't loading at all for me... error after error. It loads a black screen, and there's a new load bar! It's just frustrating. I've been trying for nearly 8 hours to get in now!I'm downloading that update to see if it helps, but I really wish the chat would be more dialup friendly.

8 hours? and all this time you could have been at work teaching old people how to answer the phone! well...keep trying, Jon....there are a few cool features in the new chatroom.Same emoticons, though. Except angricon, your favorite...now has :{ instead of :<
