Re: At
Thanks for finding these. I should be able to fix them in a day or two. Making sure I've got this right, the problems are:
  1. Can't use double quotes in a message title.
  2. Registration dates are being displayed as the current day in a list of members produced by a search.

Re: Message dates and times are also wrong
Oh, okay, I see the problem now. I evidently inserted a bug in the code that displays times using the server's time zone, looks like it's always using the current time for all times.
I should be able to fix this tonight, but if you go to your profile page, scroll down to Time Zone, then select "Display times in the time zone of your local computer", you'll get the correct times. Assuming your browser has Javascript enabled.

Unicode Character Problem Again Fixed
I've changed to a more complete Unicode character set, and I believe this should solve the problem of displaying funny characters. Please point me to new messages that have this problem.
Many of the old messages with funny characters should now display correctly, but not all of them.

Re: another translation problem
I looked at Message 3 in Chrome, IE (versions 6 and 8), FF and Safari and was unable to reproduce the problem. Can you tell me your browser and version?

Re: another translation problem
I don't have FF on this machine. Could you repeat the experiment? Cut-n-paste the delusion definition from the American Heritage site into a message, post it and see what happens?

This looks okay for me in Chrome 2.0, FF 3.0 and IE 8.0 on X/P.

Minor Update Just Installed
Hi everyone!
I just completed the installation of a minor update:
  • The single light blue right arrow has been replaced with three different arrows (up, down and left) that are consistent with the appearance of EvC Forum.
  • The way that reply status is displayed on message pages has changed. The summarized list of replies at the bottom of each message used to include an indication as to whether a reply to it had been posted. Now the line indicating which message the current message is a reply to has the indication about whether a reply has been posted. If the message is a reply to you then this indication is an active link. For example, if I click on it toggles it between the "Percy has not yet responded" state and the "Percy has taken note of this reply" state. If I respond to the message then it will change to "Percy has responded".
  • The Member Thread List page has changed substantially. This is the page you see when you click on a member's name. Changes:
    • The column for the member's last message has moved from the right hand side of the page to the left.
    • The "New Replies" column has also moved to the left side next to this column. This column will either say "Yes" for new replies, "No" for no new replies, or "Noted" to indicate that you have some replies that you have chosen not to reply to, but you've noted that you've seen them. When the indication is "Yes" then one or two arrows appear below it. The up arrow is a link to the first unreplied to message. The down arrow is a link to the last unreplied to message. You do not need to refresh this page for these links to stay up to date.
    • Clicking on "Yes" changes the indication to "Noted" and the arrow links disappear.
    • Clicking on "Noted" changes the indication back to "Yes" and the arrow links are restored.
  • The page links have been restored in all thread lists. Could the activity meter be far behind?

Post Volume Info Now Available
The status box at the top of each page now includes a line about the volume of posts, ranging from the past year to the past hour.
On another topic, please, everyone, explain to Taz that you're not disagreeing with him, that you're merely trying to feed his paranoia.

Re: Last Post Button
Just to be clear, you're talking about the blue left arrow in the left most column of the All Topics page, right?
This arrow appears to be working properly. It should take you to the first unread message, which is one after the last read message. If you've already read all the messages in that thread, then it will take you to the last one.
Is anyone else seeing a problem with this?

Re: Last Post Button
To Perdition, Asgara, Theodoric,
I've now observed the same problem of inconsistently incorrect behavior. I'm on vacation and have few diagnostic tools available to me here on my wife's MacBook. If someone is able to discern a pattern please post a note here. Thanks!
Oh, by the way, I did make what I thought was a very minor change a day or two ago. Can anyone confirm that this problem predates that change?

Re: Last Post Button
Hi Stile,
The old cookie-style approach is no longer used. You'll still have ThreadTrackerCookie around until it expires after a year (or you delete cookies), but it is no longer referenced.
Now the time of the most recent message you've read in a thread is stored in the database. If a thread has 6 pages and you've only read up through page 3, then the time of what was then the last message on page 3 is stored in the database. The next time you click on the left arrow you'll be taken to the first message after what was the last message on page 3.
Except that sometimes this isn't working. I can probably fix it even from the hotel, but only if I can figure out what is causing the problem, and my ability to diagnose from here is minimal.
Having different colored arrows where a black arrow would link to the thread's last message would be a fine approach, but I elected to keep the right hand column that along with a link to the last message also includes information about author and time.
