Thanks for finding these. I should be able to fix them in a day or two. Making sure I've got this right, the problems are:

Oh, okay, I see the problem now. I evidently inserted a bug in the code that displays times using the server's time zone, looks like it's always using the current time for all times.
I should be able to fix this tonight, but if you go to your profile page, scroll down to Time Zone, then select "Display times in the time zone of your local computer", you'll get the correct times. Assuming your browser has Javascript enabled. Edited by Admin, : Spelling.

I've changed to a more complete Unicode character set, and I believe this should solve the problem of displaying funny characters. Please point me to new messages that have this problem.
Many of the old messages with funny characters should now display correctly, but not all of them.

I looked at Message 3 in Chrome, IE (versions 6 and 8), FF and Safari and was unable to reproduce the problem. Can you tell me your browser and version?

I don't have FF on this machine. Could you repeat the experiment? Cut-n-paste the delusion definition from the American Heritage site into a message, post it and see what happens?

This looks okay for me in Chrome 2.0, FF 3.0 and IE 8.0 on X/P.

Hi everyone!
I just completed the installation of a minor update:

The status box at the top of each page now includes a line about the volume of posts, ranging from the past year to the past hour.
On another topic, please, everyone, explain to Taz that you're not disagreeing with him, that you're merely trying to feed his paranoia.

Just to be clear, you're talking about the blue left arrow in the left most column of the All Topics page, right?
This arrow appears to be working properly. It should take you to the first unread message, which is one after the last read message. If you've already read all the messages in that thread, then it will take you to the last one. Is anyone else seeing a problem with this?

To Perdition, Asgara, Theodoric,
I've now observed the same problem of inconsistently incorrect behavior. I'm on vacation and have few diagnostic tools available to me here on my wife's MacBook. If someone is able to discern a pattern please post a note here. Thanks! Oh, by the way, I did make what I thought was a very minor change a day or two ago. Can anyone confirm that this problem predates that change?

Hi Stile,
The old cookie-style approach is no longer used. You'll still have ThreadTrackerCookie around until it expires after a year (or you delete cookies), but it is no longer referenced. Now the time of the most recent message you've read in a thread is stored in the database. If a thread has 6 pages and you've only read up through page 3, then the time of what was then the last message on page 3 is stored in the database. The next time you click on the left arrow you'll be taken to the first message after what was the last message on page 3. Except that sometimes this isn't working. I can probably fix it even from the hotel, but only if I can figure out what is causing the problem, and my ability to diagnose from here is minimal. Having different colored arrows where a black arrow would link to the thread's last message would be a fine approach, but I elected to keep the right hand column that along with a link to the last message also includes information about author and time.
