Re: Email notification
I'm using a web based email that I got from the alumni association from college. Its actually fairly crappy so it might just be a problem on my end.
I also noticed that at the bottom of the message it says "Thanks for participating and EvC forum", with a hyperlink at EvC Forum that links back to my host emails website but with /dBoard.cgi at the end and it goes to a dead end. Seems erroneous...

Re: Email notification
Is that EvC forum hotlink at the very very bottom screwed up for you too?
Oh, and mine looks different than that. It has a black background with a blue box with white lettering. But I'm not gonna take a screenshot and host it so I can link to it because I'm too lazy.
It looks just like this page looks.

Why yes, yes it is! Hadn't even noticed that either this is the site it links to:
http://dboard.cgi/
Which is a non-existant page.

I think it's safe to spread the blame around, but can I assume that your email tool usually rendefs HTML email correctly?
I also noticed that at the bottom of the message it says "Thanks for participating and EvC forum", with a hyperlink at EvC Forum that links back to my host emails website but with /dBoard.cgi at the end and it goes to a dead end. Seems erroneous...
There's a link to EvC Forum at the top, too ("Hello, Catholic Scientist. Greetings from EvC Forum"). The two links should be identical. I bet the one at the top is wrong in the same way. I set the base href, but your email tool isn't paying attention to it, so maybe I shouldn't count on it, but I'll try some other things first.

Yeah, that's a safe assumption.
Do some tools render better than others? It seems like mine could be a little poor at it... sometimes pictures don't work. Or is rendering just rendering and I'm noticing something that isn't there? Although, I don't really have anything to compare it against.

Yup, its the same link.

Faith and Huntard
Private messaging functions should be fixed. Please let me know if you find any other problems.

About HTML in Email
When I added HTML to email notification I debugged using Outlook, and it worked fine. It doesn't work so good for some other email tools.
The problem is the style sheet. Many websites define their general appearance in a CSS file called a stylesheet. The <link> HTML tag provides a link to the stylesheet, and this tag appears at the top of all EvC Forum webpages. Of course, you can't see it unless you view the HTML source (right click, there's usually a "View Source" item in the menu).
I added this same link tag to the email sent as notification, and in Outlook this works fine, but I've discovered that at least some other email tools ignore the link tag. I'm researching this now and will develop a solution soon.

Re: About HTML in Email
You put in a link to the style sheet.
I read the email. If my mail software loads the style sheet, then it has possibly just informed a spammer that I exist and that I am dumb enough to open spam email.
Thanks for the information that outlook is spam-friendly. That's just one more reason not to use outlook.
May I suggest that you avoid doing things in ways that require spam friendly email software.

Re: About HTML in Email
Well my Yahoo web mail issue now seems to have been resolved. So thanks for that.
Instead of eye-killing black text on dark blue background it is the EvC site standard of white text on dark blue background. Much better.

Re: General replies
Hmmm. I tried again and am still unable to reproduce the problem. Is anyone else having trouble with the general reply button?
I can see the symptom occurring if you resumed an old browser session and didn't hit "refresh" or "reload" and had tried only the general reply, but if the general reply button doesn't work then none of the other buttons should work, either. So I'm mystified.
All the buttons are now dependent upon a snippet of Javascript, so you have to have Javascript enabled, and if you have an old browser session then you have to hit "refresh" or "reload" so your browser loads the updated Javascript file.
