Re: setting the record straight
While that is the modern interpretation of that phrase, from the text itself, I do not see any reason to consider it meant to be spiritual at all.

Re: setting the record straight
That quote say very little about CHristianity in the early years.
It also doesn't address how Christiantiy became later, and how it's exclusive nature allowed for cruelty and barbarity against non-believers.

Re: setting the record straight
Ah yes, the 'not a true christian' arguement.
WIth that kind of arguement, there are no 'true christians' at all.

Re: setting the record straight
An out of context quote does not mean anything.
After all
Luke 19:27
quote:
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
That same technique can be used against Christianity too.

Re: Is that an acceptable standard?
Definitions change.
It used to be that marriage was between a man and his wives.
In some rare societies, it is between a woman and her husbands.
What is one more change?

Re: Who cares?
Let's see.
They refuse to let them enter into a legal bond with their partners.
There have been efforts to remove protections from gays when it comes to employment, and when ti comes to housing, based on their sexual preferences.
They get kicked out of the military if their preferences are found out.
Hum. Sounds like being oppressed to me.
