Now there's something we can agree on! I especially liked your Shakespeare example.The use of emoticons should be discouraged as much as possible, in favour of the teaching of good writing. Words should speak for themselves.

And I say yes to sarcasm, irony, pastiche, proverbs, literary allusions and many more of those beautiful constructs you can make with words alone. If I want pictures, I'll read a comic, thank you very much. O dear, you're a rookie, aren't you?Metaphors be with you.

They're welcome to them. If my sarcasm amounts to pearls before swine, then they have a problem, not I. I just enjoy writing it.

I had the same problems accessing the site. I even became so desperate that I started searching cached Google pages to see what was going on at EvC.By the way, molbiogirl, if you google pictures of a Dutch writer named Connie Palmen, you should be surprised at the likeness of this author to Laurie Anderson.
