The Benign Dr Adequate
Perhaps (I say perhaps) I've gotten to understand Dr (sometimes in-) Adequate, especially after our joust in Freeforall a while back. As a creationist, I've actually moved from despising to liking him and appreciating his intelligence, no matter what he says. He seems to have a rather benign form of rudeness, unlike (ahem) a few others which come to mind.

Re: People who can't take a hint
Give him a thread, Percy, and let's see what we can learn.
Hmmmm, I don't know if that is such a good idea. It's one thing to give a thread to an egotistical ass just to teach them a lesson, but if this individual is truly mentally ill as you say, I don't think it is wise to add to his paranoia, not only for his own safety but for the safety of others around him.
Paranoid schizophrenics already have a break with reality, so no amount of reasoning is going to overpower how his sick mind processes thoughts. I've been around enough of them to know that nothing will convince them otherwise of a thought they've manufactured without medication and treatment.
By giving them a platform we not only unwittingly feed in to the delusions of grandeur but also validate their paranoia (see, I told you they're all against me!). We might only inflame his paranoia and he may end up hurting someone in his proximity. That may happen anyway without our help, but I don't see any benefit (either to us or himself) in even engaging in conversation with a person who cannot think rationally to begin with.
I say just let him alone and keep treating it as spam.

Re: People who can't take a hint
Poking around I didn't see any hard evidence that Dennis is a paranoid schizophrenic. If you find some let us know. In the meantime he's posted again and I'm going to move it to Free For All.

Dave Mabus t-shirts
You can actually buy a Dave Mabus t-shirt. This dude is a legend!
PZ Myers had this to say about him:
quote:
I got many excellent and informed suggestions on how to handle the death threats a certain deranged spammer has been making here, and I've acted on them. I gathered together all of the crazy posts he made over the course of one evening, and printed them out in very small print it made for a small 61 page book, which would be impressive if it weren't so repetitive and vapid. I took it down to the local police station, along with what little we know about Markuze's addresses, IP numbers, email, and phone numbers, and plopped it down in front of a police officer.
He was amazed. He said they occasionally get to handle internet threats, but it's usually a few rude remarks texted via cell phone by an angry teenager. The sustained lunacy of Markuze has set a new standard for crazy in Morris, Minnesota. So Dennis has accomplished something in his life at last.
It is now entirely in the hands of law enforcement, and all further complaints will wend their ponderous way through official channels. Our local police will talk to the Montreal police and alert them to the loon on a hair trigger in their midst, and will also alert national law agencies; I hope Mr Markuze has no plans to travel to the US at any time in the near future, because he may have some difficulties at the border.
But we're all done. Please go back to ignoring his ravings, and I'll go back to quietly deleting them.

A fitting likeness, I'll bet you anything he's shooting up on cocaine (yes, cocaine, he is insane and so utterly dumb he doesn't know the difference, remember) in that picture. Again, I'd feel sorry for him if he wasn't such a raving loon.

I didn't say anything about teaching him a lesson, I suggested that some of our members might learn something from him. The experience won't change his condition at all, not just because of its nature, but because he's already had many such experiences on the net elsewhere.
"Prophets" and "seers" teach, they don't learn, and the modern ones are the same as the ancients.

Something weird in the "display all topics" page
When I look at the display of the "All Topics" page this is what I see:
When I click the message to the right "Trasnfiguration?" by hERICtic on the second topic "Boobquake", I get forwarded to the first topic "Some still living", and the correct message.
Very weird.
{ABE}: It seems to have resolved itself with new posts to the "Boobquake" topic. Still, weird.

Am I really that stupid, or...
Right, the the The Truth About Evolution and Religion thread, after some back and forth posts between me and dkroemer, he said this to me in Message 264:
dkroemer writes:
I have trouble believing you don't understand what I am saying.
Now I ask you (admins or otherwise inclined persons), start reading from Message 242 and tell me if I really am that stupid, or if he makes as little sense as I think he does (none).
Thank you all for helping me get my mind at ease (or disturbing it even more).

As I said in Message 131, dkroemer comes across as sounding like a martian.
You are doing fine.
Earlier today, I was sorely tempted to quote mine (take out of context) his "my arguments are irrational" from the last line of Message 256. For that sums up how I see his arguments.
I'm not sure why you think this a reportable discussion problem.

Re: Am I really that stupid, or...
I started on the Internet in 1974 (it was called the Arpanet at the time). For literally decades everyone I conversed with was involved in one aspect or another of the computer industry or was at an institution of higher learning. Beginning around 1995 this began to change, and it began to change in earnest around 2000 or so. Now you can't even count on conversing with someone sane, let alone reasonable and rational. That's reality now.
Of course, here at EvC Forum we aim for higher quality discussion than normally occurs on the Internet. I'll take a look later tonight and see if I can think of anything that might help.

Re: Am I really that stupid, or...
Dkroemer seems to be making correct and insightful comments and observations with no idea how to tie them together into an argument for his position about the soul. I can't make any sense of it either. Ferreting out how his arguments connect to his premise seems like an interesting challenge for those who have the time and patience.
