Re: Another nutter
That guy's ranting ring a bell.
I think he may be the guy with a grudge about James Randi (he posted last year I recall).

Re: Another nutter
His posting style reminded me of another poster, so I searched the forums and came up with this one:
http://EvC Forum: How Michel Nostradamus stopped the Randi-Dawkins-Myers Corp. -->EvC Forum: How Michel Nostradamus stopped the Randi-Dawkins-Myers Corp.
VERY similar, plus the mab in his name could be a reference to mabus. In short, I think it's the same person.

Re: Another nutter
Thanks for the research. The IP numbers are very similar - They are almost certainly the same person.
I have replied to his message, and have just edited in some further comments. He has replied to my message, which of course is a no-no in itself.
In all, he's on pretty thin ice.

Troll?
http://EvC Forum: the source of life -->EvC Forum: the source of life
This poster keeps insisting on using creationist or layman's terms in place of scientific terms after several cautions. He has brought no evidence to show why these incorrect terms should be used in place of the ones now used in science.
This, in the Science Forum, seems to be trollish behavior.

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

Another one that I predict will be a big mess.
Per meeting standards for promotion, Homunculus's two new topics both left a lot to be desired. But it would have been a long messy battle to whip them into shape. Thus I turned into "Mr. Easy" and promoted them anyway.
I consider these topics to really be "enter at your own risk" sort of things. Don't expect anything approaching a high quality debate.
That's how I see it. Other admins may see it different.

It really helps moderators figure out if a topic is disintegrating because of general misbehavior versus someone in particular if the originally non-misbehaving members kept it that way. When everyone is prickly and argumentative and off-topic and personal then it's just too difficult to tell. We have neither infinite time to untie the Gordian knot, nor the wisdom of Solomon.
There used to be a comedian who presented his ideas for a better world, and one of them was to arm everyone on the highway with little rubber dart guns. Every time you see a driver doing something stupid, you fire a little dart at his car. When a state trooper sees someone driving down the highway with a bunch of darts all over his car he pulls him over for being an idiot.

Re: Troll?
Homunculus is misinformed on many topics, and he complicates this with resourceful and determined rebuttals. He also fits the common pattern of a relatively new member who quickly burns himself out. If he sticks around then we'll gradually increase the pressure on him to use correct terminology and get his facts straight, except in threads specifically designated for discussing such issues.

I'm not sure if Agobot's supsension is entirely correct.
In this thread: http://EvC Forum: Confidence in evolutionary science -->EvC Forum: Confidence in evolutionary science
He was asked by AdminNosy not to post again in reply to his message 15. Adminnosy's reply is number 20.
Then AdminNosy replies to his message 18 and suspends him, saying he should've read his earlier message and not have posted again. I think it's a bit hard for someone to read a message that follows after the last post he made to this thread.

Agobot's suspension was an error
Admin noticed the situation even prior to your message, and lifted the suspension.

The tone of debate and the world view thread
I am peturbed by the style of debate going on in the the principles of world view thread. It seems to me that the Evo side have been overly hostile to John 10:10, and frequently approached the debate in a manner not conducive to productive debate, lines such as these:
quote:
How long is the half-life of Uranium-238, genius?
quote:
As my old Philosophy of Science tutor would say, "...epic fail..."
quote:
Expecting an Answer Likely in Vain (as a post title)
encourage a tone of debate that is highly adversarial and unlikely to proceed in a manner conducive to productive discussion.
I would suggest that we will be more effective if we assume, or at least adopt the pretence of assuming, that John 10:10 (and other creationists) are intelligent, open minded, capable of understanding the arguments and evidence and here in good faith. And, further, attempt to avoid snideness, snarkiness and other tactics likely to drag the debate downwards.
In particular, we should attempt to maintain these standards when debating with members who are relatively new to the site.

Re: The tone of debate and the world view thread
There's also another problem I see in the thread. It's about the (supposed) effect evolution has on one's world view, not about wether evolution is true or not, which seems to be what John 10:10 is talking about.
