Please help make this a better site by helping assess the performance of this site's webhosting company. If you've ever experienced times when the site was inaccessible or slow then please reply to this message and describe what happened. Thank you!

Funny you should mention this..10 minutes ago while trying to post a response I got an internal sever error message and could not post for several minutes. I have had this happen a few times. In the latter half of the week it is sometimes harder to access the site i.e. slow.

It is very often that there is a problem accessing areas of the evcforum site. Though I can't say I ever remember recording any time period where this might happen, the home page seems to be accessable at almost all times. Though when attempting to view the forums & threads and such 'interactive' pages such as:
http://http://www.evcforum.net/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=l...
--The down time usually is around the vicinity of 10-30mins. Other than that page updates and other such factors seem to be reasonable with speed.

Frequently. Also it's hell to post over a wireless Internet connection but I'm sure that problem is on my end.

I have noticed the internal servor error, please try again later a number of times. I don't log on every day but have noticed that as stated by others, the problem seems to occur late morning through mid afternoon CST and the outage is usually 15 to 30 minutes. I usually just take a short break and come back later.
Frank

Thanks for the responses! The webhosting company has been provided a link to this thread, so for the next week or so it would probably be very helpful if anyone experiencing a problem posted a short note here. Thanks again!

I experienced the problem at the same time. I was actually actively interacting with the site while testing some modifications, and in the minutes leading up to the server failure observed a gradually increasing slowness, eventually becoming severe and finally yielding the "Internal Server Error" message.
I immediately called the webhosting company so they could catch the server in the act of misbehaving, but by the time I got through the site was working again. I was told that the problem had been traced to DOS (Denial of Service) attacks on the server, and that they were looking to a new version of Apache to help them deal with it.
I was surprised at my ambivalent feelings about these DOS attacks. On the one hand I was outraged at whoever's doing this. And on the other hand I found I could identify with the perpetrator. The difficulties this site experienced with our previous webhosting company made it easy for me to understand how people could become so outraged that they could justify executing DOS attacks on a webhosting company. I can't condone it, but I can certainly understand the feelings behind it.
So far our current webhosting company has been a good guy, so we'll just keep our fingers crossed that the problem is fixed soon.

I did not realize that the site (or the webhosting company) was under attack! This must be a fairly regular affair as I have experienced the exact same error from time to time over the last month or so. I however, assumed the problem was on my side and not EvC.
Would it help if I and others directly email you when we experience the problem as opposed to posting here or would you prefer that we do both?

Posting here is probably best because I provided the webhosting company a link to this thread. Regarding other problems and issues it is usually best to email admin@, or just click on the "Contact Us" link that's at the bottom of each page.

The webhosting company has marked this problem "Resolved." Please post to this thread if you experience further problems accessing this website.

Had some trouble getting to any of the forum pages, starting at about 8:35 pm, Eastern time, 11/12/02. Getting "500 Internal Server Error" message. Other (non-forum) pages seemed to load OK.
Then got things to load, at about 8:31.

Thanks for this information. I'm downloading the log file for November right now so I can take a closer look.
Anyone who experiences difficulty accessing the website please continue to post here. It is very helpful. Thanks!
