After changing my password, I couldn't log in again until I cleared my cookies.

Hmmm. Can't think why that might happen. When cookie limits are passed (the limit is 20), very strange things can happen, but as a normal member you should only have been using around 10 cookies at most (around 8 is the board, and then chat can use two more if you use it).
If you change your password again does the same thing happen? If I can figure out how to reproduce it then I can fix it.

Can't seem to replicate the problem now.
Incidentally, the password character limit is too short for us paranoid folk.

It used to give me newer messages at the bottom of the page, now their at the top. I've tried changing the order in my profile but it makes no difference.
Help?

Don't know if this is a bug problem exactly but since I've been accessing the new board, when I run the spyware program AdAware it catches a surprising number of "cookies" from evcforum. I run AdAware every time I leave the internet because I pick up so much ad stuff online. I just cleared 47 evc hits before logging on this morning. Yesterday at one point it was 200 and something. How am I picking up so many cookies from this site? Seems like every click must get one.
ABE: Hm, now I'm not getting times on the board again. Related? ABE again: Cleared cookies in Profile. Why are times not appearing on the board? Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Go into your prodfile and check to see which order the info is in.

Mr Jack writes: It used to give me newer messages at the bottom of the page, now their at the top. I've tried changing the order in my profile but it makes no difference. This appears to be working for me. Just to be sure we're talking about the same thing, if I have "chronological" checked for message display order, then on the first page of a thread message 1 is displayed at the top. When I change my profile to select "reverse chronological" and refresh the page, now message 15 is at the top. So it sounds like you're saying this isn't working for you. I can't imagine why that might be. Let me know if this problem persists and I'll take a closer look. I'll probably have to log in as you, which will require temporarily changing your password. When I'm done you can change it back. Moderators no longer have password access, for security reasons. (I still have access to passwords, of course, because I can access the database and passwords are not encrypted, but I wouldn't look up member's passwords. Password encryption is coming in a future release, and then I won't have access, either.)

I'm currently counting 7 cookies from evcforum. One of them is for SessionBeginTime, so that obviously needs periodic updating. You might just be seeing the same cookies being periodically updated.

Faith uses AOL to access the board. I reallly don't know how AOL handles the issue of cookies, or even which browser agent (AOL has several) she might be using. It might be a good idea to track those who are seeing this problem and try to find out if it's another AOL issue.

So I should just let them accumulate and not get rid of them or what?

That's what I do. It isn't causing problems. Deleting cookies causes problems if the board software expects them to be there.

An additional comment.
For evcforum to work smoothly, there needs to be some state information (information on the current state of your use of evcforum). It is storing this information in cookies on your computer. I also use another forum, which keeps the corresponding state information in its own database instead of in cookies. Now which do you find more of a privacy threat:(a) a site such as evcforum that keeps state information in cookies on your computer, where you can inspect them at will and delete them at will; (b) a site (such as my other forum) that keeps state information in its own database where you cannot tell what information is kept on you, you cannot delete it, you have no control. Personally, I think (a) is less of a privacy threat. As it happens, I trust the other forum. Thus I am not too worried about the dossier they maintain on me. And the database method does have the advantage that it remembers which posts I have read, regardless of whether I read them on my home computer or my work computer. In my opinion, some people are a little too paranoid over browser cookies.

Nwr is correct that there are seven cookies written by EvC Forum. If you delete EvC Forum cookies then the board will behave strangely from time to time, and you'll probably get asked to log in a lot. Now that we have many fewer cookies with the dBoard 2.0 release, there should never be any reason to delete EvC Forum cookies.
Cookies can be set on your machine by any website you access, but care has been taken in the implementation of browsers to ensure that cookies are not a security risk. Deletion of cookies is usually not necessary, though I'm sure there can be special circumstances. Unless you're visiting lots of high-risk and/or disreputable websites, I don't think there's much to worry about. EvC Forum updates the "WithinSession" cookie every time you click on any link. This cookie is set to expire within 30 minutes to indicate that your session is over, but every mouse click resets it again. This means that your current session always expires 30 minutes after your last mouse click. EvC Forum also updates the "ThreadTracker" cookie every time you visit a page of a thread. This cookie controls whether the light blue dot is displayed to the left of forums and threads to indicate that there are new messages you haven't read yet. There are other cookies, but they are set much less often. The "SessionBeginTime" cookie is set every time you begin a new session. The rest of the cookies are only set when you login.

The content of my signature is coded to be in font size=1. It is no longer displaying as such. Older (pre 2.0) versions of the same signature (such as here) also seem to be no longer displaying in font size=1.
See also here for the minnemooseus version of the problem. Adminnemooseus Added by edit: I think the " Warning: Because we require email verification, if you change your email address, a new password will be created for you and emailed to the new email address. Do not change your email address unless you can retrieve email from it to get your new password" notice at the profile edit page should be made more prominent (color, font, or font size change?). Edited by Adminnemooseus, : As noted above. New Members should start HERE to get an understanding of what makes great posts.
