Topic drift/abandonment alert
The topic concerns dissolved materials in ocean water. All messages and most all message content should be directly related to that topic theme.
People - Get and stay on topic or I'm going to have to close the topic for a while, "hide" a bunch of text, and/or plaster "OFF-TOPIC" banners all over the place.
Also - Watch out for the bare links usage. The essence of the message content should be text in the message, not text located at some other site. But do include links to your info sources.

Edited by Adminnemooseus, : Call it a typo fix.

It really helps moderators figure out if a topic is disintegrating because of general misbehavior versus someone in particular if the originally non-misbehaving members kept it that way. When everyone is prickly and argumentative and off-topic and personal then it's just too difficult to tell. We have neither infinite time to untie the Gordian knot, nor the wisdom of Solomon.
There used to be a comedian who presented his ideas for a better world, and one of them was to arm everyone on the highway with little rubber dart guns. Every time you see a driver doing something stupid, you fire a little dart at his car. When a state trooper sees someone driving down the highway with a bunch of darts all over his car he pulls him over for being an idiot.
Please make it easy to tell you apart from the idiots. Source

Random request for references/sources
A salt layer 2 km thick, as found under the Mediterranean...
Not necessarily just the above, but did you pull this info of off some web page (or hard print source)? If so, a link/reference would be good and proper. Not only are you giving credit, but also providing a source for possible further reading.
I'm just using this message as an example. There are numerous other informations put out in messages, that should have references.

There is a better (and currently active) topic for this discussion line
I just did a quick review of message 1 of this topic and, as expected, found this topic to actually be more of a "Dates and Dating" type topic (we shall see if it gets moved).
Discussion of salt deposition should go to Jar's Salt of the Earth (on salt domes and beds), which currently could use an infusion of quality material.
Don't make me get out the [hide] code function - Get over to the proper topic.
