Raz,I came across the following articles ( one from the website of the Natural History Museum and one from the NY Times) this morning. It lays out the substance of the dispute over the Hobbit. It presents the possibility that the evolutionary split in man and chimp species may not have been as clean as once thought. I was reminded of what I had read in the We're Really Chimps??? thread which brought up the possibility of hybrids mating back with one of the parent species.
