Re: New Controversy ...
Raz,
I came across the following articles ( one from the website of the Natural History Museum and one from the NY Times) this morning. It lays out the substance of the dispute over the Hobbit. As I understand it, it seems someone thinks the Hobbit's size is the result of a deformity (microcephaly) and not a product of a species difference.

Debate on Little Human Fossil Enters Major Scientific Forum
Incidentally, this article Two Splits Between Human and Chimp Lines Suggested which I came across in the NY Times might interest you as well. It presents the possibility that the evolutionary split in man and chimp species may not have been as clean as once thought. I was reminded of what I had read in the We're Really Chimps??? thread which brought up the possibility of hybrids mating back with one of the parent species.

Re: New Controversy ...
Thanks for the welcome, and I hope you enjoy the articles. They tied in well with the threads I've been reading here, so I figured I'd share.
Yeah, I've been lurking around here a little bit, trying to learn a little something. You are so right, the CNN boards have just about dried up, but you've got lots of very bright people at this site, and there's lots to learn, so I think I'll stick around here for a while.
P.S. I posted an article on the CNN board that might interest you as well. It's been a week or so ago. The thread is titled "Facing Extinction". It's about scientists reporting a big increase in the number of endangered species facing the possibility of extinction.
Edited by scoff, : Edited to add P.S.
