I suppose you would argue that our needs are the primary concern. My only argument concerning Christianity as a humanist philosophy is that God is not even needed as part of it all. In my opinion, "good" religions involve God...not simply humans doing for other humans.
Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. Or anywhere we go that we are unfamiliar with...there are those who have gone before us to guide us. For what? Jesus went before us mentally and emotionally...He has been through trials and tribulations that no amount of psychiatry nor medications could minimize. Of course, it is up to you how you interpret the story. Some think the story only shows a good teacher showing us how it is done.
