Any one used to play Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks? I see they are being re released in the UK.
They are what got me into D&D in the first place.

Fighting Fantasy
Yes, I enjoyed them quite a bit. They varied a lot in quality, but the best ones were an absolute blast and actually had some rpg elements like an inventory.
A few companies released similar products and there was one in particular which involved you fighting your way through a dungeon and it had pretty advanced rules with a little octogon-wheel thing which was used for something (maybe fighting). I absolutely loved it, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

Re: Fighting Fantasy
Octagon wheel thingy?
Hm, can't say I've heard of that. How old is this book?
The most popular ones were the ones based on the world of Titan and started with the Warlock of Firetop Mountain.
My favourite of all time was Talisman of Death.

The Fantasy is certainly not Final... aren't they on 13 now?

(...also known as Final Fantasy III in the Americas)
I had a lot of fun playing this game. It's fairly old now, and the storyline/gameplay is fairly straight forward.
Hints aren't particularly necessary, the game has great balance in level progression vs. monster difficulty. Also, all the different characters are pretty good. Each and every one of them is "viable" if you use them enough and equip them okay. Just pick the ones that appeal to you and have fun.
My personal favourites - Locke, Cyan, Sabin
Don't forget to take advantage of moving your materia around so that all those in your party are always gaining some type of spell at all times.

Just finished Locke's side mission in South Figgaro.
Really liking this game!
Do you have an estimate on the time it takes to complete it?

I don't really remember (it was a while ago... back in Super Nintendo times). But my estimate is anywhere from 50 hours to 70+ if you spend lots of time levelling and searching and exploring and such.
Oh, I do have one tip, but it's kind of a bit of a spoiler. However, after I learned it myself I had to restart the game to get it right (although I'm sure others have had better success on their first-time through):
(Peek Mode to view)
For any other tips or hidden things... try gamefaqs.com, I'm sure they'll have walkthroughs and such. They sometimes also have "tip sections" where they don't give away all the information that a full walkthrough would.
But, as early Final Fantasy games went, all you really need to do is search each area exhaustively and you'll find most of all the little surprises.

Thanks, Stile.
I ground to a halt in Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana so I need something I've never played before...

Take a Gander
Take a listen to people playing D&D.

It's just some things you never get over. That's just the way it is. You go on through... best as you can. - Matthew Scott

You know, I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe. - Marcus Cole

Re: Take a Gander
I know this thread has been dormant for a while but I just wanted to link to RPGMP3: Dungeon ON! which has a huge collection of recorded play sessions from a wide selection of different systems, some campaigns have ~80 hours of material.
I also wanted to thank PaulK for mentioning RPoL, I've been having some fun in a few games there.

World Of Warcraft
I started playing WoW 3-4 years ago. Rahvin had mentioned it in a chatroom - thanks!
I used to run one of the best guilds on US Horde Fenris:
Angry Atheist - at it's peak I had 140 members.

Keys for RIFT beta freely available.
**Appologies to the admins, guess I hit new reply instead of general reply last time.**
Gamers looking for a change of pace, RIFT is a new MMO being released March 1. In the meantime it is in beta witht he next beta sessions starting up January 25th.
Beta keys (allowing up to 25 people per key are being posted on their forums).
Register for beta here:
StackPath
Look for keys here:
http://forums.riftgame.com/forumdisplay.php?3-General-Dis...
Remember some of the keys have been used up so you might have to try a few to find one which works.
If you get really stuck send me a message and I'll see if I can find you a good key.
if you see this message after this beta you might still try to create an account since they'll likely have at least one more beta test.

Re: DIII
Yeah, I know.
Stupid Blizzard-exact-opposite-of-EA-Games-and-actually-want-to-make-a-game-that-works.
I'm liking the idea of having an auction house, huge linked stash, let alone all the new ways to customize. I don't spend enough time to extract all the math from the game, so I think this is heading in a good direction for me... actually showing the effectual results of the math in the user interfaces for comparison purposes.
I also like the looks of the Demon Hunter at this point, I've always been a fan of the ranged character. Next would be the Monk for me.
