I've just got to the bit with the monks. I'm trying so hard not to read your spoilers!
Btw: I've turned the difficulty right down as I found the fights were killers, did you find this?

I don't recall having that much trouble with the monks. In fact, you can download a tougher Balthazar as an add-on from somewhere.
It was the big blue dragon that repeatedly handed me my ass. Mutate and Survive

Well I got plenty irratified by them an' no mistake. But I meant in general what with having to layer buffs and have spell triggers and contingencies set up for each fight.
I hated fighting dragons! But it's great when you finally kill them. I got a real kick from killing Demogorgon, too. Edited by Larni, : No reason given. Edited by Larni, : No reason given.

Hi Rahvin, (or anyone else who can help me here)
Have you ever played The Temple of Elemental Evil? Or what about Neverwinter Nights? They "look" a lot like Baldur's Gate II... I've played and have them both and was wondering how Baldur's gate II compares. If its pretty much the same thing then I'll prolly just fire up one of those two, but if its way better then I'll prolly go out and pick it up. All this type of old D&D games makes me wanna play one.

It was the big blue dragon that repeatedly handed me my ass. I think I stopped playing The Temple of Elemental Evil when my min/maxed fire mage just could not defeat the fire elementals I don't even think I could damage them. Kinda put a hamper on my progress.

I have played both.
ToEE was horrible. It was buggy as all hell at launch. I only played the demo, so they may have fixed it a bit, but I wasnt going to pay money for that. NN was good. The expansions were far better than the original campaign. Baldur's Gate makes other good games look like ET: It's that good, particularly BG2 and the expansion, Throne of Bhaal. I've heard that Planescape: Torment, which uses the same engine, was also really really good, but I never got a chance to play that one. There's just so MUCH in the game. Tons of stuff to do, all nonlinear so you can do it whenever, lots of interaction between the characters, a real feel that you're affecting the world...and the story isn't shit. I can't say enough good things about it. I was serious when I said "one of the best games ever made, period."

Well I'm convinced. Imma go and grab me a copy.
Thank you. ABE: Niether Best Buy, Wal*Mart, not Game Stop had a copy They all had Diablo II though, if that's any indication of how popular a game is. Edited by Catholic Scientist, : No reason given. Edited by Catholic Scientist, : No reason given.

ToEE and NN pale like a cave slug next to Baldur's Gate 1, 2 and Throne of Baal.
It's pretty old school and unforgiving (npc can permanently die for example) and has loads of reading that needs to be done but I would so much rather play BG than the other D&D games wich I found lacking in character and charm.

Torment is as good as BG2 but in a different way.
It's very much more philosophical game (as you might expect in Sigil) and you are in it more for the story and the relationships that you and you party have. Baldur's Gate trilogy is the Star Wars of RPGs and Torment is the Bladerunner.

I think Planescape Torment is on a par at least, but it is a lot shorter and more linear.

That's true, it does not have the length (fnar, fnar) but it has the girth (fnar, fnar).
I found Torment a more intense and personal experience than BG (and Imeon was not in Planescape).

This is making me want to dig up my CDs and play it again. Damn you all, I'm already trying to balance work, a girlfriend, and 2 MMOs! I haven't even had time to play Arkham Asylum yet! Bastards!

I'm trying to balance a Counselling diploma, MSc dissertation and above all playing Metroid Prime Trilogy with a new round of BG so totally feel your pain.
I'm going to go fighter aiming for kensi then dual to wizard for ToB: what about you?

No idea. I've always loved playing as a Sorcerer - it's been long enough I might do that again. But the Kensai class holds some appeal as well. So does a Monk. Even an Archer. Or a Paladin, with that sexy sword.
It's just really hard to beat the late-game awesomeness of a living weapon of mass destruction. Magic really outshines melee in later levels...and BG2+ is all about later levels. Time Stop + epic spells = win.

Yeah, I turned down the difficulty when I get to ToB, the fights are too complex for my tiny mind and buffing get tedious for every fight.
