I completely agree. Considering we have a very large, non-American contingent, and I would hope that stays true on any other fora that come out of EvC, I'd think making it seem America-centric would be a disservice.Also, even within America's political spectrum, people can reside in many different positions depending on the specific topic, making it all but impossible to shoehorn someone into a mold. If we can avoid even the suggestion of doing so, I would consider that a positive.

First I want to say that I am very interested in your proposition.I also want to echo Caffeine here. Whenever we discuss politics we almost always end up discussing American politics. There is an entire world out there and we should be covering many different political landscapes.

Forums at EvC are divided into several categories: science, religion, etc. Categories for politics could be chosen in more than one way, but one approach I like is geographical, e.g., American politics, European politics, global politics, etc.--Percy

Most Western nations, from which the the majority of discussion board participants reside have significant right and left political wings. Be assured that if you intend to have a lively political cite, you will shoot your own foot if you limit left/right ideological input.

I'm not trying to limit anything, I'm just against syaing, "This is a left versus right board." Since people can live at multiple places along the spectrum...and many political discussions fall off that spectrum and instead live on the libertarian/authoritarian spectrum, that could be what limits debate.People can shoehorn themselves all they want, I'd just be against the site itself trying to do it from the get go.

Geographical makes sense, but there was also a suggestion earlier about economics, political philosophy, etc that would be more of a generalized sort.I see a potential problem with geographical divisions in that people from one geographical region may not bother with the other regions, making the community fractured. Maybe not, you're the one who's run one of these things.

I would like to see a section of such a forum where threads are dedicated to specific resolutions.A member would offer a resolution: "Resolved that Percy is too good at this stuff and deserves the Congressional Medal of Really Busy People."After the mods approve format and efficacy the resolution is open for debate. Limit, as we do here, threads to some 300-500 messages then, when the mods close the debate, the resolution is open to vote. All can vote, not just the thread participants. Voting would remain open for some days (3-5-7?)to allow us laggards to do a final scan of the debate and cast a vote. A subsection of this "Resolutions" forum would then list the resolution and the final vote count.

Yes, and what about a Current Events section, as well? That may fall under generalized.

I'm just putting forward ideas like anyone else, here's a related idea for categories with example forums: This is just to try to provoke more thought. Now that I see this I think it could be greatly improved upon or just influence other ways of organizing things.--Percy

Since politics itself covers a broad spectrum, there is no shortage of topics and sub-topics to choose fromEconomy, political parties, military, laws, forms of gov't, health care, etc.The possibilities are endless and because of it I'm having a hard time trying to categorize them. If I think of anything I'll let you know.

I was trying to come up with something similar, and as BMG said, a Current Events area might be warranted, maybe even as a category all itself?I say, we try it this way, and if there are problems, it can always be adjusted or fixed.

Hi Percy. Perhaps it should include a forum for the emerging world government, i.e. the new world order which our late presidents, including President Obama have aluded to.There are a number of political aspects relative to the UN.

I have created the domain and an associated website named: Name server registration could take as long as 72 hours to propagate around the web. I'll post again when it's ready.
