I know it's a bit late to make a suggestion, but I'd like to make one anyway. lvcforum l = liberal v = versus c = conservative This is, after all, evcforum.net. Why can't a spin off of this website for politics be lvcforum.net?

Perdition and Theodoric
The PoliticusMaximus discussion board is almost ready. You can see it at http://www.politicusmaximus.net/cgi-bin/dBoard.cgi. But while setting it up I found a few bugs (one of them is evident if you visit the board, just look at "test topic"), and I won't be fixing them until tomorrow night. But you can look at the board and start exchanging ideas about forum organization, color schemes, a title graphic, etc. I'll be sending more information tomorrow to your currently registered email addresses. If you want me to use a different address either post it here, or you can send it to admin@evcforum.net.

I was thinking a color scheme similar to EvC, but with green instead of blue. I guess we'd have to see whether white or black text would show up better on green, but I don't want any sharp contrasts. As much as I like a red/black scheme, red can be overpowering, unless it's pastelized or turned to almost pink. I'll see if I can come up with a title graphic myself, now that we've settled on a title, but I'm definitely open to ideas from others.

I've been playing around with apearance and forums/categories. I noticed one thing, though. On EVC's Forum page, it has the forums grouped by category, and the link at the top of the page says, for example "Board Administration => Suggestions and Quesitons" On PM, it only says the forum name, even though I have created and assigned category names.

Under "Board Configuration" go to "Board Settings", click on "Main Discussion Board Parameters", set "Display Categories" to "Yes". Looking good so far!

There's nothing to click on under Main Discussion Board Parameters. There are little links for Help and Show Settings, but clicking on SHow Settings doesn't do anything.

Uh-oh, that's not good. I just checked IE 6.0 (11.6% of EvC Forum accesses are from IE 6.0), doesn't seem to work there. I'll try to look at this tonight. Do you have another browser installed that you can try? It works in Chrome and Netscape 7.1, so it probably works in FireFox, too. It may also work in newer versions of IE. I've turned on category display for you so you can see what it looks like.

Perdition is setting up the appearance and forums. I rent a server under a license that allows me up to 30 websites, so aside from the $9.95 annual registration fee for the politicusmaximus.net domain there's no additional cost to me. --Percy

Hyroglyphx makes a good point. I hadn't viewed it at normal size, and it does look grainy at that size. But it looks great at a width of 600, so if you use the image with a smaller width in that general neighborhood it should be fine. I just noticed another problem. On the forum list page, the latest reply for each forum isn't being listed. I should also be able to fix this tonight.
