Forum: Science>Miscellaneous Topics in Creation/Evolution Thread: Species/Kinds (for Peg...and others) Message #: Message 346 Rahvin does a fantastic job breaking down taxonomy. So much so that the whole "what is a kind/what is not a kind" debate should be put to rest. This post should serve as a catalyst to draw the line and enable fundies to give us a working definition. Great post Rahvin. Who are we? Seconded.
Especially when taken in conjunction with Message 355 And for once I cannot say that Rahvin has beaten me to writing a post I would have written because I wouldn't have written this.

And for once I cannot say that Rahvin has beaten me to writing a post I would have written because I wouldn't have written this. I'm trying a different tactic. Rather than being adversarial and trying to strike the immovable object, I'm trying to point out misconceptions and show where we actually agree. We'll see how it goes.

We'll see how it goes. When you get over this blatantly debilitating disease let us know.

Thread: Theropods and Birds showing a change in kinds Message #: Message 16 This post and the opener are a beautiful example of just how bloody obvious evolution and common descent are to those unblighted by religious dogma. And despite ignorant protestations to the contrary, CS's approach and tack are spot-on perfect

It reminds me of how Darwin was wrong about the strongest of the species fighting tooth and claw to be the survivor.

It reminds me of how Darwin was wrong about the strongest of the species fighting tooth and claw to be the survivor. Sometimes they do, as you would know if you had ever bothered to take the slightest interest in natural history. However, this was not the essence of Darwin's point, as you would know if you had ever bothered to take the slightest interest in what he wrote instead of making stuff up.
Two canine animals in a time of dearth, may be truly said to struggle with each other which shall get food and live. But a plant on the edge of a desert is said to struggle for life against the drought, though more properly it should be said to be dependent on the moisture. A plant which annually produces a thousand seeds, of which on an average only one comes to maturity, may be more truly said to struggle with the plants of the same and other kinds which already clothe the ground. The missletoe is dependent on the apple and a few other trees, but can only in a far-fetched sense be said to struggle with these trees, for if too many of these parasites grow on the same tree, it will languish and die. But several seedling missletoes, growing close together on the same branch, may more truly be said to struggle with each other. As the missletoe is disseminated by birds, its existence depends on birds; and it may metaphorically be said to struggle with other fruit-bearing plants, in order to tempt birds to devour and thus disseminate its seeds rather than those of other plants. In these several senses, which pass into each other, I use for convenience sake the general term of struggle for existence. --- Charles Darwin, On The Orgin Of Species {Someone should very much know better that posting such in the POTM forum - Adminnemooseus} Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given. Just had a read through Rahvins post.
Excellent. This is a good example of what was being talked about on the "Honest Debate: how do you read?" ([mid=5541443] 1) thread. i.e. you are making an excellent effort to understand and find some common ground. Unfortunatly ICANT's responses seem to also be a good example of what I said in the "Honest Debate" thread: That is that we might find ourselves arguing against something simply because that person is on the other side of the debate rather than taking the time to understand a person's position and then recognising that we have some common ground. I don't if ICANT is going to be much more help, but I would recommend that you have a look through what me and slevesque say in the What is a "kind"? thread. Hope that helps

Admin writes: {Someone should very much know better that posting such in the POTM forum - Adminnemooseus} Yes and no. Let's have one set of rules, eh? Be fair. If we can't discuss the topic, then we can't discuss the topic. So delete Sky's post as well as mine. Or if we can discuss the topic, then allow both his post and mine. Or if we can only discuss what Darwin said with respect to facts and evidence, then delete Sky's post and leave mine. The only rule that would leave his post intact and delete mine would be a rule that says that when two people disagree, the forum should privilege the person who does not provide any evidence. But this is not the objective of the administrators. Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

In the What exactly is ID? thread Straggler has been arguing with Iblis and Coyote that one can't equate creationism and ID, and beginning at Message 789 Iblis agrees with him. It's a wonderful example of the light bulb going on, and I congratulate both.

In the 0.99999~ = 1 ? thread, Jon steadily insists that math is not reality but is in a hypothetical world all its own.
I respect him for tangling with the intellectual heavyweights around here. Post#89 Edited by Phat, : fixed link

Jon steadily insists that math is not reality but is in a hypothetical world all its own. LOL. I appreciate the PotM, even though that is not what I am insisting. Thanks. [O]ur tiny half-kilogram rock just compeltely fucked up our starship. - Rahvin
