Who are they to claim that we are non theists? And why cant I start everything off with God instead of a bunch of mortal imperfections?

It's a good thing that they don't make that claim then.

Yes, but did you read what you quoted?

You posted "Who are they to claim that we are non theists?"

They made no such claim. It is the "Humanist Manifesto II", and so it applies to "Humanists".

Re: Christian Nation Quiz
Yet its a very Puritan/Protestant people in heart and soul and mind.

Utter nonsense. In fact the Puritan heart and soul was what almost all of the colonies feared and was a direct cause of the US becoming a secular nation.

Therefore since the people more then any others in history influence the nation then the nation has been more religious then any others.

If the "people" you are referring too are the Puritans, the only influences they had on the Nation were negative, that it was necessary to keep them from gaining any power.

Robert Byers writes:

America is the most moral and intelligent people in human history because of the Evangelical motivation save God's blessing.
Every baby born is genetically a Puritan/Evangelical Englishman.

Amazing.

America is the most moral and intelligent people in human history?

Do you have some evidence to support that assertion?

I assume you have some evidence of that and some indication of how even IF that were true, it would have anything to do with the topic?

Re: Madison And Jefferson
Gish Gallop much?

The question was to find out where Christianity was mentioned in the US Declaration of Independence or your cite from the Virginia Statute and it just is NOT there.

Thank GOD the US is NOT a Christian Nation and never has been.

Re: Madison And Jefferson
Well, I ignored it as I often do when Creationists try to pull a Gish Gallop and simply throw out yet another unsupported assertion.

Until you actually provide support for the new assertion that "The U.S. was founded on William Penn's 1682 government, the Province of Pennsylvania, which clearly was a Christian nation" I will simply continue chuckling.

The Gish Gallop is not a new tactic to the folk here; throw out yet another unsupported assertion and when that gets refuted then throw out another unsupported assertion.

Re: Madison And Jefferson
Because you were shown to be wrong in your assertion that the US Declaration of Independence and the Virginia Statute mentioned Christianity in any way.

Now you are making yet another series of unsupported assertions that the US Democracy was based on the Pennsylvania Government.

Much of the US Government is based on the Iroquois Confederacy. Does that mean the US is an Indian Spirit Nation?

The US was designed to make sure that NO religion played a part in Government.

In addition, what the Founding Fathers imagined is also irrelevant. In case you haven't noticed we are not living in the 1600's.

The Founding Fathers were smart enough to realize that what they believed government should be was irrelevant to later generations. Fortunately today we have the "Lemon Test" and unless there is a SECULAR purpose to any legislation it is rightfully to be found unconstitutional.

Re: and then there is Roger Williams ...
Any law must, let me repeat, must primarily have a secular purpose.

As a Christian I fully support keeping the Ten Commandments, references to God, prayers in schools restricted and removing "Under God" from the Pledge and "In God We Trust" from all currency.

This is not an atheist Christian issue, it is an issue of keeping Church and Government separated.

Re: and then there is Roger Williams ...
Freedoms exist based on societal consensus. Notice that the Declaration of Independence starts "We hold..."

It is a matter of a group expressing a belief statement.

There is no such thing as ultimate right or wrong. Again, those things evolve through consensus.

No creator has EVER kept one person from infringing on the rights of another person.

Morality too evolves through building a consensus within a State, society or culture.

And we must keep faith and the Government separated.

Re: what pledge
And because we had to relearn the pledge already, we should be exempt for the next round. However, "Play Ball" should never be removed from the National Anthem.

Evidence please.
Another example would be the homosexual hate crimes laws that are allowing pastors to be sued for not performing gay weddings, photographers for not photographing gay weddings, and doctors for not performing in vitro fertilization on lesbian couples. Those are all cases of infringing on the religious freedoms of others.

Can you present ANY evidence of any of those things happening?
