BUMP: Last Call for Chess Tourney
It doesn't look like too many people are interested in playing chess. This is the last call for alcohol. Starting tomorrow I will be sending out invitations.
So far we have:
1. Hyroglyphx (Paradigm_Lost)
2. CosmicChimp
3. Slavesque
4. Hotjer
5. Caffeine (Hydraulic_Organ)
6. Son Goku (Ceithearnach)
7. Apothecus
8. Omni (defunct EvC member interested in playing)
Tentative is Catholic Scientist.
This is the last call.
If some of you out there are interested but are intimitated, don't be. It's just for kicks.
My Elo rating hovers around 1125 to 1275. That places me as a Class D to Class E player. In other words, in terms of competition I'm still considered a beginner and that's after 600 + games.
Those with a clean slate will start out at 1200 and will remain at 1200 for 5 games until computer analysis determines your true Elo rating based on win/loss ratio.
So I encourage you to play and have fun. If you think time will be a factor, don't let that worry you. You will have 2 or 3 days to contemplate each move. This isn't speed chess.

Whoa. So my first game is one in which there are 3 days allowed between moves......is this going to be the format for the tourney? I don't know if I will remember my strategy if I have to wait days to play lol.

Problem
Alright we've got some issues. New rules stipulate that "at least 5 previous wins in any rated games are required for participation in mini-tournaments."
Mini-tournament rules
For fuck's sake.... it doesn't look like this thing is going to happen.

Re: Problem
You know, we could just play games against one another, and arrange the tournament ourselves. I know that we've all become a little bit reliant on technology these days, but they were able to play chess tournaments before people designed computer programs that would keep the score, and I think we're up to it too!
What type of tournament were we planning on? We could have everyone play everyone as each colour, with +1 point for a win, -1 for a loss, and 0 for a draw; then a playoff for the top two or top four. How does that sound? This is just an idea - I'm not fussy about format.
ABE: A quick read establishes that +1 for a win, +1/2 for a draw and 0 for a loss is more standard chess scoring. We up for that, and do we want a playoff?
