It's called the fossil record.
You're absolutely right that I wasn't there 4 billion years ago to watch life diversify.
However, life was there and it was kind enough to leave the bodies behind where they have survived to this day and we can study them to see what happened to them when they were alive.
So if what you need is a videotape, why not actually look at the one we have?
Or do you deny the fossil record?
