This is a science thread inquiring about the common ancestor of man and ape. Please keep your discussion based upon evidence and focused on the topic. Correspondences between science and the Bible are not the topic of this thread, nor is anything else from the Bible.
Please, no replies to this message in this thread.
This topic is about the last common ancestor between man and ape. Diversions onto other topics such as intelligent design should be taken to other threads, or propose a new one over at Proposed New Topics.
Again, this topic is about the last common ancestor between man and ape. Diversions onto other topics such as intelligent design should be taken to other threads, or propose a new one over at Proposed New Topics.
I issued topic reminders not because of anything anyone in particular said but because discussion in general seemed to be drifting away from common ancestry and onto intelligent design. Your description reflects a good sense of topic, but you have argued in other posts for special creation. This thread is simply seeking the evidence supporting common ancestry.
Maybe you'd like to propose a thread seeking the evidence for special creation. Or comparing the evidence for common ancestry with that for special creation.
You have posted the image of the book The Last Human many times as if it somehow supported your views. Without taking any sides on the issue but just perusing the book as a normal reader of English it looks as if what many have been telling you is true, that you are misinterpreting what the book says. You are apparently allowing yourself to be misled by the subtitle, A Guide to Twenty-Two Species of Extinct Humans. First, there is only one species of humans, Homo sapiens, and it is not extinct. The book's title is wrong to imply that human evolutionary ancestors were also human. Second, the 22 extinct species were not all our ancestors, as the book makes clear. Many pages of the book can be found here at Google Books:
However I did think that the topic of creation would come up from time to time in all the discussion threads.
Creationist and intelligent design views are a central focus of EvC Forum, but they're not necessarily relevant in every thread. Digressions are both common and necessary, but we try to keep them from going on too long so that discussion can stay focused on the main topic.
This thread is throwing a skeptical eye on the concept of common ancestry. It is exploring the degree to which the evidence supports the idea. Whether one ascribes to other concepts and how much evidence lies behind those other concepts isn't terribly relevant in this thread.
But it can be as relevant as you like in your own thread, just propose one over at Proposed New Topics.
Is it possible to create a topic broad enough to explore all avenues and aspects of creation versus evolution... in the EvC forums?
Look at the list of Forums. There are 11 science forums and 5 religious forums, ranging from the Big Bang to Geology to the Origin of Life to the Bible and so on. A thread open to all these topic areas would be chaotic and would lack focus, so we try to avoid that here.
Of course you are correct, but we are presenting FACTS that support this text of Genesis.
Not in this thread, you're not. This thread is not about your pet theory that there's a correspondence between Biblical races and personages and ancestral hominid species. You're welcome to begin another thread proposal for that topic over at Proposed New Topics, but you can't keep trying to shift discussion of threads on other topics onto your pet theory.
Since you've been here for nearly a decade you know I've said many times that EvC Forum exists to examine creationism's claim that it is every bit as much science as evolution. Science is all about evidence, and if your arguments are scientific then you shouldn't have any trouble coming up with evidence for them.
Folks: Kof2hu's ideas about Genesis and human evolutionary ancestry are not the topic of this thread. He's not going to be able to discuss his theory until he gets a thread through the topic proposal process, but that doesn't seem likely. Since there seems to be interest I'll move his thread proposal over to the Free For All forum.
Re: genetic again is the reason we see common ancestors and ToE
Just being real writes:
RE--Common decent has not only been proven, and you can enjoy the history at any good museum, it is the only explanation for the diversity found in nature that has evidence to support it. It is the premise for all of biology, throughout the entire world, not just a single source. -- Hmmm, that's odd. And this comment comes immediately after the "topic reminder" post. Yet no one is complaining that you are off topic.
Onifre has already addressed this, but just for clarity I'll also answer.
First, about topic, common descent as a concept underlies conclusions of common ancestry based upon evidence. I'm not sure why there's any question here.
Second, had Onifre been off-topic and you were wondering why no moderator had yet stepped in, moderators are not omnipresent and they can't read everything anyway. That's why there's a thread for reporting violations of the Forum Guidelines: Report Discussion Problems Here 4.0
But second, moderation is only requesting that you make one change to the way you're participating: please stay on topic. If we didn't feel it important to dedicate each thread to a single topic (usually outlined in the first message) then we could just have one forum and one big thread, but we don't do that for obvious reasons. Your favorite topic does not happen to be the topic of this thread, or of almost all other threads. So please stop introducing your favorite topic into threads where it is off-topic.
First, I am not involved in the discussion beyond serving in my moderator role.
Second, this quote from you is a simple and straightforward distortion. It makes it seem like I was commenting on whether common descent has been proven:

Percy: Onifre has already addressed this, but just for clarity I'll also answer.
In reality you removed the portion of Just Being Real's quote where he goes on to say that he believes that common descent is off topic, and it is the issue of whether common descent is off-topic that I was addressing.
You can discuss any topic you like here at EvC Forum, but you have to discuss the topic of the thread you're in. Your topic has a thread, and it isn't this thread.
When a moderator requests that no replies be posted to a message, then it's probably a good surmise that there might be penalties for posting replies to that message. And when you post off-topic repeatedly after being asked repeatedly to stay on-topic, then again it is probably a good surmise that there might be penalties.
So we'll see you in a couple days. Upon your return you will be on a very short leash. Any off-topic posts or failure to follow moderator requests will draw an immediate suspension with no warning.
Being able to tell the difference between different topics is something that is very simple for most people, so if there's any mitigating circumstances I should know about, such as that English isn't your native language or you're only 8 years old or things like that, please send me a PM. You can send PM's even while suspended.
AbE: Apparently I disabled the ability to send PM's while suspended.
