Way off-topic
If people have finished discussing Aurora Colorado Violence, maybe that thread can be closed an a separate thread opened for debating guns. I shall happily ignore the gun thread.

Re: Way off-topic
Your right, I'm not going to post there unless it is on topic, but I do feel gun control is a valid topic.

Re: it must be a good day for spam
Some got caught before they posted and some had their spam messages/topics deleted. The "All Topics" list doesn't even show it all.
The last 13, and 18 of the last 20 registrations have been spammers.
They do seem to come in clumps. Last night we had 2 on the online list at the same time. I caught 1. via Google, before he could post but I couldn't pin any solid evidence on the other prior to the spam message.

ABE#2 - Update - As of 11:45 pm eastern US time, July 30, 2012 - 15 of the last 16 registrations are spammers. The one that isn't (yet) has an India IP. Probably will be a spammer, but I can't pin it on them yet.

I would like to apologize in advance if this is incorrect, or not to be used in this way.
I am new here, and trying to not rock the boat, I only have 20 or so posts, and I have enjoyed this site for a couple weeks (1st as a lurker).
I have had zero complaints, it seems to be a well moderated site, that has active admins who police the site very effectively. I have not agreed with people here (such as Nonukes), but it was always cordial and fine (sometimes people do disagree with you).
That was until today. I made a post in the coffee house (the really active subforum here) in a thread titled Bears. It appears that my post was something that the OP (Theodoric) did not agree with, and in his response decided that berrating me was appropriate and acceptable. I am sorry I have a different opinion but I think more tact would have been appropriate, rather than the school-yard behavior I encountered.
Here is the response
Theodoric writes:
There is rarely a need to shoot a bear unless you are hunting it. In a bear encounter in which you have incited the bear to attack I highly doubt you are going to get off 5 effective shots.
Also, your choice of ammo shows you are either a poser or just not real smart. Any idea what that hollow point is going to do when it hits that bear? Didn't think so. I don't think 5 .357 hollow points are going to stop a bear of any size. Ever spend much time in the woods?
so based on my opinion I am either "not smart" or a "poser". I understand whais being said when one asks a question and both answers are negative. Then this person continues by asking a strawman question and answering it.
I really would like to know if this kind of posting is generaly accepted here or not? I have not run into it until now, the vast majority of the poeple here are respectful, even to those of other opinions.

Are you freaking serious?
You further responses and lack of backing yourself up just assured me that I may be hitting too close to home.
so based on my opinion I am either "not smart" or a "poser".
Since you have no evidence to back up your opinion your opinion deserves no respect from me.
Trying to stop an enraged bear with a hollow point .357 is not smart. I do not care if it is your opinion, it is just not smart. I nor you can change that fact. It is reality live with it. As you have posted nothing to show you have an understanding of guns or ballistics my gut impression is that you do not know of which you speak. You make a lame comment based on nothing except seemingly false bravado and what do you expect.
It was a stupid comment plain and simple. Until you provide something to show that it is not, I stand by what I said.
If you don't want to be mocked don't post stupid things.
I have not run into it until now, the vast majority of the poeple here are respectful, even to those of other opinions.
You can have any opinion you want, but it can still be stupid.

From the Forum Guidelines:
  1. Points should be supported with evidence and reasoned argumentation. Address rebuttals through the introduction of additional evidence or by enlarging upon the argument. Do not repeat previous points without further elaboration. Avoid bare assertions.
  2. The sincerely held beliefs of other members deserve your respect. Please keep discussion civil. Argue the position, not the person.
To everyone:
All the moderators have had about enough of snarky behavior. Calling people, opinions or positions stupid or ridiculous or anything else along these lines is not considered acceptable debate, not to mention reflecting a grievous lack of originality and creativity.
